Would a win over Dawson right now be better than a win over Kessler?

How can you be P4P top 3 in 1 divison????

Light Heavy in my opinsion is a very weak weight class at the moment, filled up with guys to Old like Hopkins, Jones and Woods!

I meant he was certainly amongst the three best boxers at SMW and LHW, taken together.

    LHW is ****

It relies on a 43 year old and guys coming up from lower weight classes. Yet people criticize SMW

    Unfortunate for Dawson

As of right now, Kessler is the more accomplished. In a year, Dawson could be the man. Dawson needs another big win or two against someone we've heard of. Johnson, Tarver, Woods, even Gonzales. Notice I didn't mention Hopkins. Benard would rather encounter Bubonic Plauge than deal with Dawson.

I dont think beating Dawson rather than Kessler would have been better, Dawson is still somewhat of an unknown quantity, its obvious hes got the skills, but Kessler was the man to beat from JC perspective, he had to finish the SMW division and clear it out, has Dawson done enough yet to be considered a big win for JC? I dont think it would have been as big as Kessler

Sure; Kessler was the fight Joe needed to fight and no other. But now that he has fought Kessler, he needs to fight Dawson, if anyone. In that sense only, given that he has already beaten Kessler, beating Dawson, up to one year later - making Joe up to one year older, would mean in practical terms, pretty much as much, I would say.

No, not right now. There's a good chance that 5 years from now it would be more significant, but there's no guarantee of that either. If Dawson destroys Johnson like some are predicting, then maybe it becomes a legitimate question.

Doesn't matter anyway. Unless Dawson clears out the division quickly, it will never happen. There are too many big names who would be much easier for Joe to beat for him to go after Dawson. :bbb

A win over Dawson would be MUCH better and more impressive than Joe's win over Kessler, it's not even close. Calzaghe had a big style advantage over Kessler in their matchup, but against Dawson you have two fighters that will both give each other big problems. Dawson is also a very large LHW and is faster than Kessler. It's pretty much a 50/50 match compared to Calzaghe/Kessler which was at least a 90/10 match.

actually in the end Calzaghe's style advantage ended up rather unimportant because Calzaghe actually fought out of style and rather than moving in close and creating angles with and uppercuts in combinations, he fought his best rounds when he stayed out of range and potshotted Kessler with jabs and counterpuches. And Kessler was more successful on the inside than on the outside.

Even with the style advantage for Calzaghe this was still a 50/50 fight with the hometown advantage pushing it to 60/40 in favour of Calzaghe.

Calzaghe Kessler 90/10? So what is Dawson Diaconu then? (yeah, that old favourite of yours!):p

    Calzaghe vs Kessler was 90/10?

    Ah, hindsight, a wonderful thing

It was about 60/40 in Joe's favour on here before the fight. Many thought the young hungry lion would dethrone the aging southpaw

Yeah, he easily had a 90% chance to win. I said the same thing before the fight. Dawson/Diaconu is about the same, except Diaconu has a slightly better chance than Kessler had against Calzaghe because of Dawson's unproven chin.

I don't know how anybody could say Kessler is a better win than Dawson. It will be very impressive if Calzaghe beats Dawson clearly. He can retire after a win like that and increase his ATG status significantly. It wasn't hard to see Joe would dominate Kessler, but it's very hard to see Joe dominate Dawson. I would probably even favor Dawson to win.

Hopefully after Dawson stops Johnson and Calzaghe destroys Hopkins in April, the two could fight eachother at the end of the year. Dawson could use Diaconu as a tuneup during the summer. :D
