Haven't watched enough of Wright, if I'm honest. Just the Taylor, Trinidad and Hopkins fights. Any recommendations?
Checkout this clip of winky, you can see Winky come forward behind the jab., and also look at winky's footwork on how he tries to circle away from the attack with his guard up, he doesn't wait for vargas to stop throwing. Winky was a good counterpuncher but not one of the best. The most important attribute he had was he could move fairly well and that killer southpaw jab which he dictated terms with. He was best when he controlled a fight proactively rather than being reactive. Abraham would have to remodel everything about himself to counterpunch. A more realistic target to improve on would be to move a little better, learn how to throw punches without putting the kitchen sink into every single one and up the work-rate a little.
The Hopkins fight was an absolute stinker. Was one he could have taken as well had he been in better shape.... up at 170 he was like a beached whale, but was still level after 8 rounds before losing the last four.
Yes he needs a new trainer. His current trainer i believe isn't getting through to Arthur no more. I don't feel he looks after AA's best interests either. He allowed him to fight with a ridiculously dangerous injury for a long duration. AA won't dramatically chance but a few changes to him may give him what he needs to at least be some way competitive. As TFFP says how can you counter when the gloves are stuck to face. He can't see a thing. Plus i notice alot of his training is power based, weights on arms when doing pads, shadows with weights etc.
Oh I agree, I don't see it happening by any means. That's just my (somewhat) realistic view on what AA could do if he got a new trainer to improve. Just loosen up the legs a little, nobody is expecting twinkle toes but ****...move a bit. Take a bit off each individual punch and punch more often so you don't dig so many holes in there.
