Would AJ becoming a 3x HW champ be more impressive than one continuous reign?

If AJ does pick up another HW title he'd join only Ali, Lennox, Holyfield and Vitali as 3 times HW champs (Holyfield with 4), very exclusive company. Would that feat be more impressive than if he simply never lost the title to Ruiz and then Usyk and maintained one long reign?

No. But it'd be a great feat nonetheless.

Is losing 3 times more impressive than never losing? I'm going with no.

Yeah, but it's not so straight forward. Ali was the first 3 time Heavyweight champion and that became a big part of his legend and aura.

Yeah but Joshua would have to beat Usyk for it to be comparable to Ali.

No, never losing > losing & regaining titles. Anything else is fanboy cope even if it involves Ali or SRR

Yeah, but it's not so simple.
Ali was stripped of his title bureaucratically for the first time. The only time Ali legitimately lost the title was to Leon Spinks (no comment).
An example, but not a good one (because he became champion by throwing belt in the garbage) is Lennox Lewis.
Would Lennox Lewis' reign have been better if he hadn't been knocked out by McCall and Rahman, or is the reign better as it really was?

While it does involve losing, it sounds great on paper. And it shows he would have had to go through hardship to get back on top of the pile, even though remaining a champ would be harder, yes. People think back to legends being "two or three" time champs in a really good light imo

So that would make Marciano the TBE?

If AJ wins the title three times he still has nothing in common with Ali as far as tremendous displays of skill and heart with victories over all time great heavyweights in their Prime nothing near what Ali accomplished. Joshua's winning of the title three times is only a statistic . All the good stuff, all the heavy fights all the great displays of all time great skill, all the tremendous battles they're all missing from AJ's resume.

No because Marciano fought in a weaker era (& retired before it got better) & I heard that his first win against La Straza was a questionable decision. Of course you could make the argument that its not Marciano's fault that the names he fought were past their best

I am not saying undefeated > defeated between fighters but rather that the same fighter would be more impressive undefeated vs having losses

If AJ never lost & fought the competition that he has up till now, that's better than AJ losing 3 times & regaining the title 3 times. It might make for a great comeback & redemption story but that doesn't mean its better so far as results go. The same would apply to Ali & SRR

Well becoming a multiple time champion usually means you’re taking on tough opponents at least. Most title reigns are against cherry picks. When it comes to AJ though, losing and gaining it again from Ruiz really is pretty pathetic and I like AJ. Getting the belts back from the Usyk vs Fury winner would be a huge feat tho.

This is a really simple answer with no variables. Using Muhammad Ali as an example, if instead of what actually happened, Ali had beaten Frazier and Spinks and held the heavyweight world championship for 14 consecutive years that would have been much more impressive than what he actually did.

It is never more impressive to lose the title twice than it is to defend your title successfully.

AJ has still never beat a reigning champion for a belt

He became a 2x champ because he got chinned off by McBurger and won it back off McBurger which is not an achievement. Fury is the only legitimate x2 champion in HW boxing currently beating the two reigning champions in Wlad & Wilder...

Imagine if Fury lost to Francis Nnganou then beat him in a rematch then acted like he's jesus christ because he's a x3 champion. That would be writing a wrong that you shouldn't have let happen. AJ is always one fight away from getting chinned off.
