Ali would a heavyweight champion in any era. Not even punching-bag-bending Foreman could knock him out...oh, and he had the fastest footwork and jab at heavyweight.

I understand your point, but disagree, especially about the training part. Fighters today especially US fighters realize the damage being done to their brains each and every time they get punched in the head. (And they should) Young trainers today don't push sparring as much as trainers from past era's And let's face it a lot of these new trainer are just cheerleaders. They really don't know anything other than the basics. You mentioned a few fighters, but the one thing they had in common is none of the fighters you mentioned are US fighters. Look at the amateurs today in the states. The last US fighter to win a gold medal at the Olympics was in 2004. The last couple Olympics the US didn't medal at all. I don't know we're you see excellence in the heavyweight division. I see a D.Wilder slapping with almost every punch he threw the last time he fought and yet he's considered a heavyweight champion . I see big but stiff men who look robotic in their movement, and delivery of the punches they use. They usually are not in great position to counter punch because very few slip punches. And it's not just the heavyweights but the entire sport seems to be regressing. Fighters today seem to be thinking about what their doing. Fighters from the past it was instinctive, almost supernatural. The fighters from the past seemed to anticipate were the openings going to be, guys today throw at were the opening is. It may not sound like much. But it is. And all that comes from quality time and especially quality sparring. I could be wrong, and it's only my opinion . But other then their great size, guys today are not close to fighters from the past. Especially in the skills department.

Ali didnt need loose ropes in Zaire in fact they placed him in danger of being propelled out over the top rope.Ali's camp had nothing to do with setting up the ring or making any stipulations about it.
As a matter of fact when Angelo Dundee with Bobby Goodman went to inspect the ring prior to the fight he was shocked to see how slack they were, he borrowed a razor blade, cut the ropes and re-fitted the now shortened ones.
He also tightened the ring canvas and levelled it up because it was sloping Dundee, and Goodman got workmen to put wooden wedges undr the ring to level it up obviously this would help Ali if he had done his usual dancing, but he didn't, he stayed on the ropes most of the fight so he got no help from that.
**** Sadler was an amateur compared to Dundee .
The master-stroke of having Ali wait in the ring for George to appear ,supposedly filling him with dread ,backfired spectacularly Ali used the time to get the feel of the canvas and get the crowd on his side. people accept ,and repeat these old myths time and again.

I agree with this post, and on the PEDS Fury said at a recent press conference to Wlad you're basically a skinny guy who has unnaturally bulked up.

The ring size didn't stop Maidana from pinning Mayweather to the ropes and unloading on him.

Floyd had to adapt to the situation he was in under the legal rules of boxing.

Wlad in a similar situation vs Povetkin would simply create his own rules to deal with a come forward aggressor.
That disgraceful performance is up there with Tyson biting off Vander's ear.

He won that that fight the exact same way Broner LOST to Porter.

Greats takes immediate rematches and over turn losses or dodgy results .
Floyd made it is business to beat Maidana more convincingly.

Why didn't Wlad want to prove he could cleanly out box Povetkin? He got savaged by German media for that farce. He wouldn't entertain any rematch because that was the only way he could ever win.

DM was lineal champion in an era when Jones the premiere fighter in the division. So he was never really regarded as the best in the division after about 97.

Wlad spent an ungodly amount of time as the number 1 HW in the world. The two aren't comparable.

Many felt Vitaley was the premiere fighter in the division. Wlad shared the same situation with Michalczewski.

So a more orthodox sized ring for welters would have had May been trapped against the ropes more times or fewer times? Seriously, you are so frothing to get to your Wlad-bashing you can't even use logic.

The bottom-line is that the champ, or the better draw, gets to set the conditions. This goes back to the sport's modern inception.

Your argument, like your logic, is flimsy.
