Would Ali have done a better or worse job against Fury than Usyk?

I always had this fight scored for Young, even when counting every time he hung outside of the ropes as a knockdown.

Ali was the heaviest he's ever been in that fight I think.

He was 230 pounds which was his career highest weight outside of the Berbick fight.

Ali's best weight was like 210-215 and its obvious just looking at the footage Ali had noticeable timber around the mid section.

I scored it a draw myself I know I am in the minority with this one. I thought Ali started off to slow in the first 3 rounds but he looked better as the fight went on.

 

I scored it a draw Ali stole some rounds with his flashy flurries and Young had a point deducted for sticking his head out of the ropes.

Honestly Young had a very poor version of Ali infront and couldn't really separate himself or take advantage of the situation.

So in my view Young only has himself to blame it was an ugly fight and maybe Young could've got the nod. But with the point deduction and his lack of real desire and fire in his belly to take advantage of the situation along with his antics of sticking his head out of the ropes to avoid combat multiple times.

I feel no sympathy for Young for losing a close decision quite honestly.

 

Actually there is. Ali knockouted or stopped 22 of his 1st 25 opponents, 88% ko rating. Usyk has 61% through 23 fights. Ali's total ko percentage for his career is 66%. Still debatable, but that's what I use to form my opinion.

 

I agree he was a bit to heavy at that stage of his career his best weight it what he was in 60s or the early 70s. But he was still moving well in my opinion his problem in that fight was he wasn't letting his hands go enough in particular in the first few rounds.

 

It was a draw for me also. You could argue Young won for sure but to me it was pretty close.

 

The difference is that Ali's knockout rate against actual heavyweights (200+) is 34% (11 out of 32) while his knockout rate against SHWs ( 215+) is 33% (5 out of 15) Usyk's are a bit higher 44.4% against 215+ and 60.9% against 200+ so statistically speaking Usyk hits harder.

 

Very true, and it can be argued that Usyk's level of opposition in his 1st 23 fights was better than Ali's. Regardless, a prime Ali would beat Fury.

 

He looked fine on the front foot against a fleet footed Bugner, Furys a much bigger target with better defense. Statistically speaking, Alis dropping Fury once or twice, if Cunningham and so many others could do it

 

Ali psyches out Fury so Nad pre fight that Fury is a quivering blob of flesh on fight night. Ali always played head games with his opponents and someone as mentally fragile as Fury would be damaged even before he enters the ring.

Ali busts up Fury with his jab the fight has to be stopped. Ali doesn't fall for any of Fury's feints.

I don't think a grossly out of shape Muhammad Ali who was way past his best by 1976 has much barring on how a prime Muhammad Ali would look vs Fury.

That's like me saying "let's pit the out of shape Fury vs Ngannou against Ali".
