I think Tyson's main problem with any build up against Ali would be his awareness of Ali being great and his showing this in the ring, he would also be aware that Ali is revered around the world. Something that is not being discussed is Mike's inferiority complex, which he had admitted himself. Faced with a guy like Ali, who was great inside and outside the ring I wonder if he would feel like the lesser man and respect Ali too much. Tyson always respected fighters, he even gave Holyfield a lot of respect in that 91 press conference, no smack talk there. If anything I think Mike might be over awed by Ali, I guess this could manifest itself in a meltdown but i dont see pre prison Tyson doing a pre fight Lewis job. Tyson would still be a hard fight regardless.

edit - I dont believe Tyson was bothered by those other fighters showing no fear because he knew he was better, they were losing no matter how tough they talked or acted. Ali would be something else.

the times changed, if ali saw that when he insulted anyone they could hit him in the mouth, then i think that he would think it twice before talking ****

thing is Ali wasn't beyond a bit of physical stuff himself during a build up. He had Frazier wanting to kill him during the little wrestling match on that Cosel show, Ali didn't seemed very rattled, and again he didn't seem bothered that Joe nearly went for him with Cavett interviewing. Ali went near mad in the build up towards the Thriller in Malilla, he was throwing chairs at Frazier and basically acting like a crazy man, goading Joe to hit him, what about the gun threat stuff? Ali near put that fight in jeopardy through his antics. Didnt Ali also slap ernie terrell when he called him Clay. there probably more. I really dont think Ali would be afraid of getting hit. he liked to act the maniac as a ploy but all evidence points to him being able to handle a physical exchange outside the ring.

I am a Tyson nut but even I admit Ali would probably psyche him out one way or another during the build up, the more i think about it. but i think it would be pretty tame as Tyson would show respect.

I just rewatched Tyson-Bruno I and I completely agree. Embarrassed for the posters on this site who claim that Tyson couldn't beat men who had the courage to stand up to him. Leave that nonsense to the casuals and the noobs.
