Would Anthony Joshua beat Mike Tyson in he's prime?

Smith fought to survive.

Tucker was a very good southpaw.

Look at how Anthony fights. He wouldn't look to survive. He'd probably fight in the custom we've been currently seeing.

Maybe Anthony would have crushed Douglas. But it doesn't matter. It doesn't mean he'd have beaten Mike.

Mike losing to Williams at Povetkin's age means absolutely nothing.


The only things you need to focus on, is:

1. The attributes that Mike possessed when he was at his best.

2. How he'd have matched up with Anthony stylistically.


The versions of Mike who got beat by Williams and McBride don't even resemble the versions of Mike who beat Berbick and Spinks etc.

The best version of Mike is better than any version of Povetkin.

The best version of Mike would have been a huge threat to Anthony due to his style and speed.

 

He would have caused problems for Mike. But if you look at the styles of each guy, Mike would have to have been favoured.

 

Having watched Povetkin land his leaping left hook at will for three rounds, I very much doubt Joshua would have survived Tyson's....

 

Horrible match up for AJ. Mike was phenomenal.

Early stoppage I think. But that's not to discredit AJ. I wouldn't pick many, if any to beat Mike Tyson from the late 80s.

 

You need to look at his fights closer. I picked the 4th round at random against Holyfield, Ruddock, and Douglas. It plays out like this, in terms of how many times he found himself in the clinch:

4th round:
Ruddock 13
Douglas 12
Holyfield 11

A lot of Tyson's fights became battles of the clinch as the fights wore on. Tyson was a great fighter, but he did smother his own work, especially as the fights wore on.

I doubt it. Onebthing AJ has is mental strength/fortitude. He would also be way bigger and would not back down and if he got dropped he would get right back up and go at Tyson while he is seeing red. Tyson would be in for a bad night, and probably look for and find a way out.

 

Ugh the refs not enforcing the crap spoiling by huge guys has a big part to play in it as well. That's kind of why some of these guys were able to go deeper into the fight due to the serious amount of hugging they did on Tyson.

That should tell us a lot about how effective Tyson was as a midget vs these tall guys that they hug as a tactic.
