In all honesty, if Larry had faced Joe Louis s Title Opponents rather than his own, do you see him not reaching 25?

    Yes Larry would reach 25

An aging Holmes would struggle vs Walcott though.

Also, what age does Holmes become champ? If he becomes champ at 28 in 1937, does he take 4 years off for ww2? He would be 36 by 1946. He would lose to Walcott at that age/

Overall though, assuming no 4 year break, Larry would reach 25. Walcott would be tricky. Baer would put up a decent fight ala Cooney but lose. Schmeling would put up a decent fight before losing.

On the other hand, Louis would reach 20 vs Holmes's opponents too.

    He lost to Michael Spinks.
He might well have lost to Billy Conn.

He arguably lost to Witherspoon and Williams too, both of whom weren't very experienced.
He might well lose to any decent heavyweight, past a certain age. Depends on the judges.

I think the version who lost to Spinks would lose to Walcott. Others would definitely give him a hard fight, but I don't think he'd lose.

Holmes would definitely struggle with Walcott by the time he gets to his Spinks fights stage. Walcott was giving Louis a pasting, he'd do the same and be tricky for Larry.

You're right, if he takes a few years out like Joe did, does that affect his reign? Walcott s the danger man waiting imo.

He could, it's a possibility. Imo Larry catches Conn, as Joe did.

Baer maybe? Because I remember hearing Larry say that the hardest part of fighting Spinx was because of his odd angles and herky jerky movements, said his style was hard to figure out, Baer could possibly present similar issues

    No worries.
I think a prime Max v Holmes could be a right belter, tough fight but I see Larry getting a decision.
If we take the Baer that faced Louis tho, remember he was past it by then and got smashed. Now Larry against challenger Buddy Baer? That's a fight that Larry wins but may find Holmes on the canvas imo.

Let's be honest befor making a blanket statement like this. Holmes was a few years past his prime here and well above his 212 lbs prime weight. He then came back and handled Spinks quite easily regardless of the bogus decision

My answer is yes he would struggle with some of them and as some have already stated he might even lose to a few of them past a certain age.

I think that Louis's title opponents were a bit better than Holmes's, and I think that he struggled enough with what was put in front of him.
