This hasn't come up too much, but after watching Marquez/Katsidis, and how that fight ended, should Khan/Maidana have been stopped in the 10th Round?

Understandably, Marquez was leading when Bayless stopped the fight, and it was Khan who was leading up to the 10th, so that is one big difference. Plus Katsidis wasn't moving around as much as Khan.

    Your thoughts?

Could you find someone who would stop it ? Sure some dick would have made the wrong call and done it. But it would have been a bad stoppage. Khan was moving around, trying to avoid punches (Raised his hands as well to show he was sort of okay) and ended with a couple of shitty combos as well. Katsidis on the other hand was just standing there and taking em flush. Big difference.

Nothing else really needs to be said. However, I'm sure there are corners that would've stopped it then.

    Smoger might have stopped it?

I hope not because Khan was moving and still throwing the occasional punch. It wasn't as if he was stuck in a corner getting unloaded on.

I feel Khan showed he was ready to go but you can't let him lose on his feet. Khan was hurt but everone knew the backdrop story behind the fight and the questions surrounding amir khan's chin finally being tested. Khan had something to prove and had the look of someone willing to attempt to go through the fire. He put his soul into this fight and I feel even when hurt in the 10th that he was always showing something, atleast being defensive. To sum it up, I would have been pretty pissed if the fight was stopped in the 10th. It had the feel of Klitscho vs Lewis where everyone questioned Vitali's heart before the fight and you knew early that Vitali was ready to Die in that ring, as he proceeded to eat some of the most vicious shots I've ever seen in my life. Khan was feeling like that and this was his chance to prove his will to win and that he could take shots from big punchers.

The problem I have with cortez is some of the breaks when maidana was still punching and they weren't touching eachother. I also didn't like Khan got away with holding Maidana's right arm in the legit clinches. But what do you expect from cortez? He did the same in hatton vs Mayweather and that point deduction late in the fight, made hatton open up more which lead to Floyd quickly closing him down.

I would have a problem if the fight with the decision to stop the fight in the 10th.

    Good post.

  9. Berto-Hernandez was stopped prematurely. Hernandez was up, and slightly shaky. In contrast, Maidana got up, and then grimaced and bent over in pain.

Nah, Khan-Maidana should not have been stopped. Marquez-Katsidis was the right call, the stoppage was good. Khan was hurt, but moving around the ring, trying to hold, and although he took some hard shots, he was still not getting nailed with the frequency of clean blows with which Katsidis was. Katsidis's head was also noticeably moving way more from the shots than it'd been earlier in the fight.

Would you have been happier to see Kats get beaten down to his face while he stood there helpless and reeling? Khan wasn't nearly as debilitated, and was fighting back.
