Fury’s resume is too thin. If he beats Uysk and Joshua before retirement then it’s worth discussing at least and could make for a more interesting conversation though.
Joyce would also be a good scalp. However if he beats Joshua (as well as Uysk) he holds claim to beating (at this point in time) the 3 best heavyweights of his generation other than himself. It will be remembered better looking back in years to come.
The ship has sailed. His only chance of perhaps matching Lewis in overall greatness would be if he convincingly beat Usyk and then had a few other decent names such as Joyce, Ruiz, etc while they're still good and not waiting until they're old or washed.
I don't think his record has the same depth. Whatever you think of him (and he has a very unpleasant side to him and a track record of very bigoted statements) his coming back from mental health problems and openness on them plus beating the weight issues are major accomplishments. However, I think head to head Lewis beats him and also overall his accomplishments are just more impressive. For me, Lewis is by far the better and more accomplished fighter.
Very true,Fergy. Joyce's career is on an upward trajectory so right now his would be a bigger scalp than AJ. I still rate Lennox higher than Tyson. The former's resume is better. I do believe, however, that there is a strong case for Fury being the second best British heavy of all time. I doubt as to whether he'll overhaul Lewis' number one position in that particular accolade.
As mentioned above, let him beat Usyk and maybe Ruiz or Joshua. ..at least one of them consummately. Then it's worth discussing. Lewis is top 5 in my book, so at this relatively late date it's kind of unlikely. He still hasn't eclipsed Bowe imo (who's at #15). Fury never beat anyone as good as peak Holyfield.
