Really good justification for Sharkey, thank you for that. He really was not who I was expecting people to take exception to my rating of but it’s great you can put the info out there. I’m going to have to rewatch the Sharkey footage I can find.

Thinking of it, Sharkey was the champ when my grandfather was born so I heard plenty of him talking about the poor quality that came before Joe Louis. I wonder if that’s coloured my opinion.

I'd bet a million dollars that Rahman would beat Corbett :headbash

Plausible, but I wouldn't recommend betting a million dollars.

Don't think it matters in this comparison.

I don't think Holmes was ever lineal he was simply generally seen as the best for a period.

Ali was no longer champ when he lost to Holmes so beating him doesn't make Holmes lineal.

For me if, the lineal champion comes out of retirement before a new lineage has been established that the titles passes to the victor.

If Hart and Burns ducked Johnson and refused to fight him, but Jeffries came out of retirement to lose to Johnson, wouldn’t you consider Johnson lineal champion?

Rahman beat Lewis, Lewis ranks higher than Corbett, also head to head is completely irrelevant

Too many names, technically The only undisputed lineal champions were Corbett, Fitz, Jeffries, Johnson, Willard, Dempsey, And Tunney, Tunney retired the champ so nobody was the “man who beat the man” thus the “original linage” died with him

You could take that logic further, and say that Mace retired with the title, so there was only ever one lineal champion.
