Would beating Marquez add anything to Pac's legacy?

I can already hear the excuses.

    -He's old
-He's too small for this weight
    -Floyd already dominated him
-He won the first two fights already

The history books already have him beating Marquez. Yeah, it was a close, disputed decision but as time goes on, what's in the record books is what matters. The name is already on his resume.

I think Pac should get full credit for a win, at any weight, over Marquez but I don't know if that's he majority of people. The excuses seem like they're already being lined-up.

Nope. If he's not getting credit for beating bigger fighters at the higher weights, he sure as hell won't get credit beating someone now seen as smaller.
And it won't hurt it if he doesn't fight him either.
He's already had his rematch and was given the W.
It's not held against the legacy of Leonard for never having rematched Hagler, or that of Oscar's for not giving Tito a rematch (and he was the loser!). Hopkins not rematching Prime RJJ another example.

If Pacquiao believes he can beat Marquez by UD, or KO him at 140-147 then he should fight him. If not then he shouldnt. They will compare it to the performance Mayweather did on Marquez. And also Mayweather will find more points to expose Pacquiao , if Pac struggles with Marquez.

nobody will compare it to floyd's win over marquez for obvious reasons

DeLaHoya went on to challenge himself against fighters like Mosley, Vargas, Hopkins, PBF and PAC. Mostly young primed fighters.

Pac has done nothing that comes close to that since his last fight with JMM.

No absolutly not, it would hurt his legacy greatly because it would vindicate all the Manny haters, at least in their minds, on the bull**** that Marquez got robbed in at least one of the fights.

Manny is 1-0-1 against Marquez. The series is over. To give Marquez another fight is to also provide legitimacy to all those who say that Marquez beat Manny and beating the **** out of an older Marquez in a third fight would do nothing to quell that.

DLH fought good competition for the most part, but you're wrong on a few counts

Oscar chose a lightweight Mosley as the fight to rebound from the Tito loss. He thought he would just walk through him and get an impressive win. Mosley was too quick and tough for him on the inside and it backfired.

A young hungry Vargas had been calling Oscar out for years and Oscar said he would never fight him because El Feroz was disrespecting him in the media. It was only after Tito stepped up and knocked Vargas out in that brutal fight did Oscar want to fight him to cash in on their rivalry. Remember the joke about Oscar scraping up Tito's leftovers?

Hopkins and Mayweather he gets mad props, even if he made sure he had all the advantages he could think of against smaller guy Floyd.

Pac fight? Damn, have you forgotten how much he was **** on for seeking this fight? He saw this as an opportunity to make a lot of money while getting an easy win over the number one p4p who was seen as much smaller and given virtually no chance.

Barrera, Morales, Marquez, De La Hoya, Hatton, Cotto were SEEN as as tough a challenge as any Oscar took. Difference between Pac and Oscar was he crushed them, while Oscar disappointed for the most part collecting a bunch of significant losses along the way.

Yeah I can see that. Berto is the better fight if the Pacquiao vs Mayweather or Pacquiao vs Martinez can't be made.

Its not about excuses its simply that Pac would be regarded as a heavy favourite for the third Marquez fight. Pac improved, Marquez has declined. So for Pac that fight would not improve his legacy by much.

People have dug an hole for themselves with all of the criticism they gave Mayweather for taking the fight after a long lay off, they can't give Pacquiao credit for a victory after not giving Mayweather any and he had the wildcard of not knowing how bad Marquez would look at welterweight.
