Yes, and that`s probably why Wilfredo is in the shape he is today because of punches like these, refs back then were completely mad.

I think it probably has more to do with his piece of **** father putting him in 25-cent street fights when he was a small child, and making him do a ridiculous amount of sparring with bigger men when he was a teen.

It was surprising it wasn't stopped then let alone now. Benitez was considered chinny back then and it simmered quietly below the surface for a long time thereafter too. He was just so damn hard to hit and when stunned could be impossible to follow up on tho that's obviously not the case right here.

Bruce Curry was no pushover. He was runner up to Sugar Ray Leonard at the 76 Olympic trials and yes he was ko by Thomas Hearns at 147 lbs but he went down bravely swinging valiantly. He went on later to become
    WBC 140 lb champion.

Not a bad fighter at all. I remember he went ballistic with a pistol that time trying to shoot his trainer after losing to Costello. It interrupted his career and he only fought one more time. He was going well at 140 too as you said, very well.

Bruce's career may have been a bit different if he got that Benitez stoppage win. Possibly got a shot sooner. Him and Aaron would have been a great fight while it lasted.

Yeah, and with a ko win here, it's hard to imagine that Curry would have agreed to fight Benitez again only 8 days(??) after he fought someone else in Japan. Probably would have been quite a blow to Benitez' legacy/standing at 140.

Just an aside - their two fights were at Welterweight tho neither were right on or pushing the limit.
