Bernard Hopkins is the master of illegal ring tactics.

But with HONEST referees, if he had to fight WITHIN THE RULES, would he have had much success as a boxer?

Could he have made it on boxing skills and athleticism, like prime Roy Jones Jr?

So masterful the way he was hitting Tito after the bell.
Also, the way Smoger was holding Tito's arms the whole time was a thing of beauty:rofl

He is a very dirty fighter, I don't know how anyone can support his style of fighting, I can never see it!

Every fighter at some point fouls his opponent it's a fight with rules that are enforced by the referee if the referee doesn't enforce them it's not the fighters fault unless they commit outrageous fouls

Hopkins does it in every fight, to one degree or another. The referees don't penalize him, for some reason.

It seems to be the biggest part of his fight plan. He NEEDS to foul to beat decent opponents, because he doesn't have enough boxing skill and athleticism.

For example, Winky Wright was doing well before the obviously deliberate headbutt that opened the cut that blinded him in one eye.

Dawson would have easily won the first fight if not for Bernard's dishonest act.

Even Murat, Cloud and Shumenov might have won if not for all those nasty head butts and resulting cuts that impaired their vision. Calzaghe, Taylor and Dawson (in the second fight) would have beaten him by a wider margin.

"I took a lot of headbutts. Like I said though, he's a dirty fighter. It's what we worked for, we knew he was going to headbutt. He hit me with like eight headbutts. I kept my composure, but it was obvious that he was doing it on purpose."

    - Chad Dawson in the post-fight interview

    Wow.

Not like Tito was throwing left hooks after the bell either? They were trading ffs.

Go watch the Trinidad fight again. There was little to no dirty tactics there. Just a solid tough fight where Hopkins absolutely schooled and destroyed one of the best fighters of that time. GTFO all you crybabies.

Yes that was one of Hopkins cleaner fights. Tito was the first to foul with the forearm he used to push Hopkins head over the ropes. Tito was hardly an angel himself, illegal wraps and the low blows against Vargas.

I'm amazed at the levels some haters go to, to discredit Hopkins, they must be really suffering with BHop still being so successful and doing the unthinkable and continue looking for the toughest fights.

Illegal tactics have been in boxing since the beginning and its not just Hopkins who is guilty of it. Its about winning there aren't any referees apart from the man in the middle, or video replays if the ref doesn't see it then the boxer has got away with it. Its not about pleasing the fans or the haters.

Certainly. Probably a bit less, but that can be said about many ATG's.
