It seems to have been forgotten to the mists of time, but would Big Baby have beaten Joshua, just as Ruiz Jr did?

He was touted as a genuine threat to Joshua, the press conference was full of drama, and Ruiz was brought in as a last minute, obese welterweight journeyman, replacement.

Big Baby is a big man, but would he have fought with the heart of Ruiz Jr? Or would Joshua have bowled him over? Or was Joshua simply ripe for the taking of anyone?

    Posted this earlier:

"Miller was in AJ's head before the fight, AJ looked like a fish out of water and was nervous in his U.S. debut. Sparring with *Dawejko* hadn't been going well and Miller was coming to win (walk AJ down relentlessly and stop him). AJ had never really been backed up or muscled around at that point and his weight was too high to move or have a gas tank at any kind of pace, while Miller had the PED-enhanced engine to consistently impose 315+ lbs on AJ and throw a record number of punches over 12 rounds. AJ would have looked ok for a few rounds but before long he would have been blowing out of his a*se, overwhelmed by the pressure and drowned in the late rounds.

I'm happy things worked out the way they did though."

I wouldn't say that AJ was ripe for the taking for anyone; you needed some good attributes and a lot of desire to win. But I believe that Miller had enough going for him to beat AJ that night. Other fighters: Parker, Pulev and Takam off the top of my head, wouldn't have beaten him on any night imo.

I said at the time that Miller would have been a very serious problem for AJ…only question mark, would have been his chin which hasn’t really been tested.

Difficult to say as we've never seen him fight clean. He was doped out of his mind when he got busted.

PEDs supposedly shrink your willy - maybe they shred the chin too…

No. Miller was far to slow and open defensively to last more than few rounds against AJ.

Miller was tailored made for AJ.

If anyone believed this then Hearn really is as good a promoter as he says he is.

No chance. I think it would have ended similar to Charles Martin's fight against AJ.

Exactly this but don't you think Joyce beats AJ? He makes Miller look relatively fast and defensively sound.

The fact he was huge roided and had a good output would give him a chance. The skills all lie with AJ and he's the bigger puncher as well but fighting a guy Miller's size is never going to be easy.

AJ's kryptonite is speed and Miller doesn't have that at all. Look who's AJ lost to both guys with faster hands and in Usyks case faster feet and upper body movement.

A big lump coming forward isn't anything AJ hasn't seen and dealt with before the problem is Miller sheer size and roid enhanced stamina AJ would have always been favorite and rightly so but it would have been interesting to watch I think.

Agree mate. He wouldn’t have got up from the shot that put Ruiz down in round 3.

Miller is big yes, but despite that I never saw him as a big puncher at all, I actually think he is a relatively light puncher for his size.

He's also poor defensively and easy to hit, as well as having a height and reach disadvantage.

He was a cherry pick, and I think he is one that would not have gone wrong. AJ would have knocked him out in 5-6 rounds or less.

I think AJ was up for fighting Miller, he was motivated and took him very seriously. I think the last minute change to Ruiz and Ruiz appearance and demeanor were definitely a factor here. After being geared up to fight the imposing trash talker Miller, he psychologically relaxed at seeing the smaller, mild mannered, almost friendly Ruiz. The early knock down he scored made that even worse as in round 3 he left himself absolutely wide open and it was that which lead to him ultimately getting hurt and losing the fight.

No. I would want Joyce to beat AJ but I believe AJ beats Joyce for these reasons.
