It is an excellent uppercut . That's why I always thought he may have had a good chance against Joe Frazier . Joe would have being getting drilled by those uc s as he was coming in ,it wouldn't have been healthy for him anyway !
A completely shot beyond shot Ghost of Bowe took everything prime mental midget Golata had in fight 2 and refused to go away.......Bowes heart , chin and recovery powers are above approach. A prime Holyfiled brawled TWICE with Bowe, got stopped once and almost stopped.......he needed the fan man and disciplined boxing to get a razor close split..........against a unmotivated Bowe. Marciano knows only one gear and that gear is clubbing up close including wide shots that miss by a mile.......that style of fighting by a little short 185 pounder who was less than 5'10 otherwise chicks in flats would not have been taller than him, is a absolute dream clash for Bowe/Futch........if worthless cannonfodder ripped Rockys face apart......if old soup kitchen has beens put him on his azz.........then Bowe would have a field day with him.......Bowe cracked Holyfileds chin with no problem, a thing Lewis could not do and he would murder Marcianos whiskers, that is as good as death and taxes.............the upper cuts he would eaten make me cringe just thinking about it. I talked to Futch a couple of years before he passed and he was convinced prime Bowe would do a number on Frazier, he believed the best chance to win against Bowe is to box, out slugging up close, not a chance.
Valuev was very carefully matched and despite how much people criticize Valuev on here he was extremely durable and had no quit in him, which sometimes is more important than skill. I bet if Ewart Potgieter had the same financial backing and resources behind him that Valuev had and there were multiple world titles around in his day he also would’ve found his way to a title. Also, Marciano like most fighters adjusted his weight according to his opponent. For heavier less mobile opponents he tended to come in over 190 lbs and for mobile opponents where he needed to be quicker to cut them off he came in under 190.
Valuev came up in the weakest era of boxing and still lost to David Haye and should've lost to an aged Holyfield He became champ via fluke
You mean the guy who threw the belt in the trash instead of fighting the #1 contender....vs. the guy who begged the doctor and the ref to let him continue fighting even though his nose had been split open down near the bone in order keep the title???...that Riddick Bowe???
Yes the 240lbs huge puncher with 14 inches of reach, better chin, more than half a foot in height and that does everything better... vs the guy that had his nose split into two by a past prime light heavyweight
Let's not build Bowe up into some sort of superman. He left a lot of questions unanswered! His height and reach would be very relevant, if he cared to make the fight on the outside!
Bowe at his best, which for his career was a short amount of time was something like Buster Douglas in Tokyo with more power. In 1992, he'd beat Rocky. In 1996, Rocky might beat him.
Bowe was actually at his best under 230lbs and likely would’ve went undefeated if he would’ve watched his diet. When he came in over 230 lbs his timing, stamina, and workrate suffered.
Valuev won the title because of his size, he wasnt a big puncher, and he wasn't anything more than a mediocre boxer. Scrutiny of Marciano's weight for fights proves your statement to be incorrect. He only weighed above 189 lbs for 3 fights, these were in the first 4of his career. He was 190 1/5lbs for Keene Simmons. 190 1/5 lbs for Johnny Shkor. 190lbs for Bill Wilson. He was185 1/2 lbs for the 193 lbs Rex Layne fight. 184lbs to Louis'213 3/4lbs 186lbs for Lee Savold 200lbs Marciano never weighed more than 190 1/2lbs as a pro.
