Would boxing be better overall if there was just 1 world champion for each division?

I remember when there was only one champion in every weight class, and fans could name them all, MS

It's a sad commentary on the sport I love so well that most casual fans can't name the heavyweight champion. That was unthinkable when Joe Louis was the heavyweight champ. Even non fans knew it.

The alphabet soup titles cheapens the belts.

    Yes.

If there is only one world title then there is only one thing to aspire to, and one man to beat.

Personally I think it would be better if therr were only 2 world champs per division. It would help to hype super fights and let fighters get the chance to be undisputed

If there was only one belt, there would be no dispute as to who the champ is (But I get your point)

the WBC WBA and IBF was not terrible. Even the WBO would be fine if they unified every year or two.

Yeah, that would be great, then you would have the top ten contender list and they would fight each other for that number one spot and that spot would be the mandatory for the champion. Now, before his mandatory, if he chose to fight another fighter in the top ten and loses, he wouldn't lose the title but that fighter would automatically move up to fight the winner of the mandatory and the champ because that would be for the title. However, if the champ wins then that fighter would get knocked outa the top ten list and would have to fight his way back in to possibly get another shot.:bbb

Of course not.Can you imagine how dull things would be without "interim" and "silver" titles?
If anything,we need more alphabet titles so we can have more big fights from Thailand and South Africa.
The sooner we start having bronze titles the better.
And I'm all for some new breakaway governing bodies.
I suggest the UWIBC;Universal World International Boxing Crew

Wow. I thought everyone wanted there to be one champ per division.
