Would boxing history be littered with more Upsets if like MMA

    I wouldn't call MMA gay. If anything watching MMA obsessively for a couple of years brought me back to watching boxing. Although I respect the skill required in regards to grappling, I just don't enjoy watching it. I also struggled with the emphasis on "standing and banging" as most MMA fighters aren't particularly great strikers. Combine that with not being able to tolerate the blatant BS hyperbole Dana White, Joe Rogan etc spout and I lost interest.

    However, I now appreciate boxing more for the technique and skill on show.

    So aye, I have no issue with MMA - other than the idiot fans that claim MMA will kill off boxing etc.:p

    Agree with this, good post. I'm the same although I came in as an MMA guy about a year agoand although I still watch MMA, Boxing is my favourite sport by a long shot. Its not even close anymore. I am obsessed with boxing :D

    There is nothing wrong with not liking MMA but it's people who claim it is 'gay' that annoy me personally.

    Some point early last year. I'll only watch certain fights if they interest me. I'm still a member on Sherdog and if I didn't have friends on there I'd have no clue what's going on MMA.

    Yeah, seems a tad bit insecure to call a combat sport 'gay'. I honestly believe both sports can co-exist with one another in the long-run too.

    Yeah I don't understand why it has to be a competition. There is room for both to succeed.

    As for Sherdog, I finally got unbanned the other day and I really wish I hadn't made another account. Its even worse than I remember it.

    Also you should check out Kickboxing if you dont watch it already

    PS- You seem like a dead on guy, the sort of guy I like talking to on forums. :good

    Sherdog is a cesspool. I mostly post in the paid members and boxing sections. I know, I know. But most of my Sherdog pals are paid members so I just renew my membership for the banter.

    Cheers for the kind words. Not watched much kickboxing but have enjoyed it when I have.

    I somehow doubt all the boxing fans that call MMA "gay" share your experiences, so aye - I do think a lot of them are insecure. It's called a generalisation, guy.

    As for my sense of humor? If you think calling something "gay" is funny then yer patter is just pish!:p

    The problem I have with MMA is that everytime the fighters get into a face to crotch clinch I think Olly Reed and Alan Bates in "Women in Love". Their particular grapple might not have been gay as such, but it certainly looked that way.

    I just don't find the grappling entertaining. I appreciate the scientific element in boxing, and like plenty of boxers deemed 'boring' by others. And while there's similar human chess in grappling, it's just not my cup of tea.
