He really shouldn't do. Toney s a blown up middle weight, great fighter yes, but is he beating a genuine heavyweight? My heart says Bruno knocks him tfo, but for some reason I'd be nervous..
Bruno was a decent bloke but god was he stiff and robotic. James would see his punches a mile off and slip and slither to a point victory, although possibility Bruno gasses and gets KO'd. Try as I might I can't see Frank beating anyone within sniffing distance of being an ATG, even a blown up middle.
Bruno is way way too mechanical in there. Toney would read him easily and after about 4 or 5 rounds when a little fatigue sets in, Bruno gets countered to death. I even think Toney's lead right hand is highly effective & especially so after Frank drops those hands. I just don't see Bruno landing anything clean on this opponent and I sure can envision Bruno getting hit clean. It would be all he could do to make it to the finish line against Toney.......especially if he gets hurt and gets the clumsies against this guy.
I think as long as Toney could get through the first few rounds, his chances of winning keep increasing.
Toney from the Peter fights loses. Toney from the Holyfield fight wins and beats a lot of other guys.
I think it’d be similar to the Witherspoon fight. Frank would struggle to land cleanly, get tired, and be awfully susceptible to counters and overhand rights. I see Toney clocking him in around 8 or 9 rounds.
I don't usually like Bruno's chances against fighters with a great defence and solid chin, as if he can't win by KO his suspect stamina limits the likelihood of him lasting the distance and winning on points. Toney had a great defence and a solid chin, even at HW. That said, Frank would have a huge reach advantage and Toney was a low output, counterpuncher. If Frank is smart and paces himself to go the distance, trying to sneak rounds behind his jab, he has a chance of holding on for a narrow decision. If he goes all out to stop Toney, he might achieve it, but a late Toney KO win against a gassed Bruno would be the more likely outcome, imo.
Who did Bruno lose to? Guys with power. Toney aint got the power of super heavyweights. Bruno beats him.
Agree in most part but will add that apart from Lewis (who hugely underestimated him and KO'd him with the first decent shot he landed) and McCall (who was having a nervous breakdown from the moment he won the title) Bruno never fought smart against anyone and always seemed to gas. He was always hugely over muscled, he looked like a body builder. He always started reasonably well but then never had a plan B if the flow of the fight changed, had zero survival instincts and never fought or beat anyone who was prime or had a fighting brain. Sounds like I am being harsh, I like the guy a lot, but I had to live through all the BS hype at the time
Not saying you are wrong but can you elaborate on this Mr Magoo I'd like to understand your thinking?
