Only the greatest offensive heavyweight in history. If his opponent didn't have a truly great jab, he'd get countered until he was unconscious , or become very reluctant to use it, as Baer did. Theirs only two other heavywights in history that could counter a jab with the speed and power of Louis, they are Tyson and Frazier. But neither were quite as efficient as he was. Ali countered faster than all of them, but he didn't carry their power.
But this is surely not what we normally associate with a boxer's ko%. A boxer's ko% is obviously the percentage of all his fights, where he scored a win inside the distance.
Well i notice a recent trend in here is to quote the KO% in wins only and it probably coincides with boxrecs differed info. At any rate no matter how he is measured he has a very high KO percentage.
Can you tell me where you read this? I'm in for a laugh. Even in this era, he was not known for being skilled. Contemporaries noted, he was not a natural fighter. And it shows This content is protected Joyce, Zhang, and Parker would quite frankly laugh if matched with this guy.
Again, you are showing a video I alluded to that supports your agenda. If Joyce, Zhang or Parker had Joe Louis in front of them, and not some of "just guys " they are fighting today, with the many mistakes they make from pushing their jabs, to dropping it to their waist, I'm 100% sure Louis would make them use a more defensive posture, or they'd get ko'ed. too. What I've seen from Zhang, Parker and Joyce they are not that much better than Baer. It's who their in against is the major difference.
Definitely. He’d pick up a strap today considering how many are available. The only way to the heavyweight title back in Baer’s day was going through Joe Louis himself. Baer definitely had a chance at beating some of the guys, who held a strap in the last 8-10 years.
The only way he's picking up a strap is if Fury, or Usyk, drop one on the floor and he picks it up for them.
If he was fighting today Buddy would be listed as being at least 6’8”. I mean, Fury at a real 6’7” gets reported as 6’9”. I’ve seen Baer listed as high as 6’6 1/2” - and I could believe that listing. So, aside from skill, when fighting Buddy, you get a reasonable idea of how Joe Louis would compare size wise to Fury - though Buddy tended to lean in a bit and diminish his height advantage - and Buddy didn’t tend to wear a truck tyre around his waist.
That’s interesting JT. Didn’t know that. Thanks. Imagine winning your first fight by KO, then losing your next 10 fights via being KO’d yourself. You’d still carry a 100% KO record. Sweet.
You would not need to get close to somebody like Zhang or Parker in the street, in order to get ranked in the top ten today.
