Would Calz survive being tagged as much against pavlik as he did against kessler?

Has anyone considered the fact that Pavlik hasn't got a great chin, and his skills compared to Joe's C's are non-existant.

He has two good victories under his belt, BUT a weak chin & C-level skills won't do that well for him against an elite fighter with A* skills and A Chin, who will MAKE Pavlik miss, like with Kessler.

Thing is US fans WANT Joe C to lose, you thought Lacy would do it, you're saying exactly the same **** with Pavlik as you are with Lacy and Kessler, can't you just admit, that Joe is the best fighter than any of yours at 160 + 175.

This talk of Pavlik being some sort of powder-keg puncher is ridiculous. He has a good punch - many have. He KO'd Taylor - well done to him, I enjoyed that fight, but please people keep things in perspective.
The idea that Pavlik should be fighting JC just because he beat Taylor, is laughable. More realistically, Pavlik should be looking to establish a reputation as a champion first.

I have now watched the fight for a second time and here is my opinion. Joe C. has a very awkward style, throws from a lot of different angles. I think he has good speed, not great, not even as quick as Taylor. I think he possess better than average power, but not great power. Again, I think Taylor has better power. Joe scores a lot and he throws a lot of punches. He threw over a 1000+ in the fight. I don't see him as being unbeatable. I hate to say this because I can't stand Floyd, but Floyd is somebody I would say as of today is unbeatable. There is a huge gap between those two. Does Pavlik have a chance at beating him, certainly. A clean right hand and it is over. Can Joe beat Pavlik, certainly. If he boxes him and keeps his hands up.

Uhhmmmm... yeah. I think that's his plan. Have you heard Pavlik call out Calzaghe?? No, didn't think so. Did you hear Calzaghe call out Pavlik before he could even make it back home from the fight?? :yep

The thing is, before Pavlik even made it back to his dressing room Calzaghe fans had already dished out 50 threads saying "Oh yeah, well Calzaghe would kick his ass!!".:-(

You mean kinda like Calzaghe did defending his WBO belt for years untested, the man has been champion for over 10 years and has at most beated 3 good fighters, cmon people, he beat Kessler, props to Joe for that one, but to all of a sudden be this unbeatable force that you guys are talking is preposturous!

What truly shocked me was how frigging fast joeC is,he was like a whirlwind, very impressive, and obviously so hard to work out and fight against, and huge respects for the man at 35,he gave up damn sex for weeks before to,and man have you seen his woman??,at his age thats got to be hard to do now.

You've got me completely wrong. I'm probably considered a Calzaghe hater by many people. As a ten year 'world' champion I think his career is poor, but he is obviously very talented, something I wouldn't say about Pavlik. Fans shouldn't read too much into JC beating Eubank in '97, just as fans shouldn't read too much into Pavlik beating Taylor. Pavlik could do with some defences of his title first.

First off, I am a Pavlik fan and I haven't gotten to watch Calzaghe that much but I did watch his fight this weekend. I would say that Kessler and Pavlik have similar power but I would give a slight edge to Pavlik. Calzaghe is one of the best boxers I have seen and his style and work rate will give anyone fits. His one downfall is his lack of true power but he has enough to stun people. Pavlik vs Calzaghe would be a great fight. The reason is because of they both have solid chins (don't hand me crap about Pavliks being questionable, he made a mistake and got caught with a flurry that would send anyone to the canvas and he got up), amazing work rate, and incredible heart. Joe has the advantage in speed and craftiness, he is very slick and moves well in the ring being a hard fighter to hit plus he is a southpaw and that always gives people fits. Pavlik has more power and is not afraid to go to war. He may not have the best defense but I think that is because he is offensive minded. I would say the fight would be a 60/40 split with Calzaghe being the favorite. Here is why I think Pavlik wins though and Joe says it himself after the fight. He likes to fight, he likes to go to war, he likes to trade. Pavlik will definitely do that and because he throws so many punches, he will hit Calzaghe and do his damage over time like he always does. Calzaghe could easily outbox Pavlik but thats not who he is. He will fight because he is a warrior. It would be one of the best fights ever, an all out war as long as it lasted. Pavlik by KO in the 10th. No one out there can handle his power and work rate and his heart. Also, Pavlik is stronger and faster at 168, you don't think he loses anything by have to cut all that weight off of his 6'2" frame to make 160 than you are crazy. I think it is a close fight and Joe wins if it goes to a decision but I don't see it happening. ANd I can't see Joe knocking Pavlik out either. I would much rather see this fight than Calzaghe/Hopkins.

Yeah i hear ya, but when Eubank fought Joe, he had seen better days behind him, not to mention Eubank resume doesnt touch Taylor's no matter how Taylor got his wins. Taylor is still in his prime and Pavlik smoked him. Im just saying this whole Calzaghe is unbeatable cause he beat Kessler argument is wayy off. They are two diferent fighters with diferent styles. Kessler applied no pressure at all where Pavlik will be in Calzaghes face all night for 12 rounds!

:good Great post newbie, i feel the very similar to the outcome and how Calzaghe should fight Hopkins. I mean Pavlik just smoked a 2x Hopkins conqueror in Taylor so why should Calzaghe fight Hops?

My personal belief, is that Calzaghe would humiliate Pavlik. Pavlik is nothing remotely special, as Taylor was nothing special, even though he beat Hopkins who once was special.

I dont think Pavlik would ever get the chance to test that chin. I think that Calzaghe at this stage might be to elusive for him. Joe aint going just stand there and trade with Pavlik.

Calzaghe wide UD or late TKO
