They say styles make fights, well as much as Pavlik got whipped by Hopkins, to me it seems PAvlik is much more tailor made for Calzaghe than for BHop.

So the question is now, would Calzaghe have layed a beating on Pavlik like he did to Lacy? or would Pavlik have been able to make it a competitive fight.

Joe Calzaghe would have abused Pavlik in style. Although the majority of Americans try to call Calzaghe a con man and a slapper, JC is one of the best boxers this planet has had for alot of years. Joe Calzaghe would have made easy work of Pavlik and made him look like the ***** he is:).. But Hopkins has done that now so JC doesnt have to waste his time:D

I believe calzaghe would have a chance of winning by TKO victory as I have noticed when pavlik got hit by combos from hopkins he leaves his hands out for a split second then gets his guard back up,
Calzaghe would take advantage of that due to his speed and would put pavlik under pressure like never before.

Calzaghe would rip him apart, his workrate and speed would be too much for Pavlik, as would his awkward southpaw stance

Calzaghe is not as good defensively as Hopkins, is not as crafty, does not have as much ring intelligence, and is a sucker for right hands. Calzaghe is not Hopkins. He can beat Pavlik but I doubt he would do to Pavlik what Hopkins did.

Calzaghe would have went to town on him; total domination ala Lacy.

Styles make fights, as they say. I picked Pavlik over Calzaghe (at this stage of his career) before the Hopkins fight. Now, I'd pick Calzaghe by decision, but it would be much closer than the Hopkins fight. Calzaghe is not the defensive genius that Hopkins is, obviously, and he'd get hit more often by Pavlik. His awkward style, speed and movement would be enough to get a decision over Pavlik though.

I agree with you that Calzaghe is a sucker for right hands, but Pavlik relies on setting them up with his jab, he doesn't really ever throw a 'single' right hand. On that note i don't think the right hand would play much of part in any match up between them as Joe's southpaw stance would nullify Pavliks jab

Calzaghe isn't TKOing anyone. I heard that same nonsense before Calzaghe fought Hopkins. Calzaghe is a light hitter and his punching tecnique goes south many times during the course of a fight.

Joe would be able to nullify that jab, he would have too much handspeed for Pavlik. It is for these reasons that he would beat Pavlik. However, he's going to each more punches than Hopkins and he won't be able to frustrate Pavlik as much as Hopkins did. I see this fight going pretty much the same way as the Kessler fight. 8-4, 9-3 type win for Calzaghe.

I didn't see Kessler throwing many lead rights before his fight with Calzaghe either. He still was able to give Calzaghe some trouble early on.

I agree... he's no Hopkins. But's he's also very good neutralizing the jab, he took away Hopkins right after a few rounds and as we saw Hopkins, despite conserving energy, could hit Pavlik every single time when he wanted to. Pavlik won't cut Joe's workrate, it's the other way around. And Calzaghe is giving a hell lot of angles and punching from everywhere all the time... he's even faster than Hopkins despite the old man's timing is better... Just truly HORRIBLE style for Pavlik, as I've always said, and to his credit, 170 is really not a naturally good weight. So at 170, Calzaghe would SO F*CKING BEAT HIM TO A PULP that it wouldn't go past 7 or 8 rounds and his face would look like Cotto's in the Margarito fight. But I can't name one fighter other than BHop and Joe who would have Kelly's number. Even vs. Kessler, Dawson, Abraham, Bute, prime Winky or Mundine (underrated slickness) would be more competitive... Kelly is GREAT at his game. But Calzaghe takes away everthing from fighters and he's not getting credit for that in the Hopkins fight. And guess what, he's going to find himself in trouble vs. Jones - Roy's flashy style and bigtime combos could give him hard times. Styles make fights, and Joe would OWN Kelly just as prime Jones would beat Calzaghe convincingly...

Pavlik knocked Jermaine Taylor out with more then just a lead right. He caught him with the 1,2 but Pavlik has other punches and uppercuts...etc etc. He battered miranda on the INSIDE.. INSIDE without the 1,2. The guy has seriously heavy hands and bhop said he felt his power even though he did not get hit flush. Bhop didnt say **** about Calzaghe's power but that yes, he really is a slapper that cant hit ****. Calzaghe said Lacy cant hit ****. But Calzaghe throws 70 punches a round and only lands 10. So he cant hit ****.

Calzaghe does not take away anything. He is a akward high volume southpaw with good chin and stamina. He makes ****ing mistakes like every fight and gets caught flush more so then other top notch fighters. He gets put on his ass. There is no science to what he does. When he is in trouble he just flings punches. That is all he did, that is all he ever did. He eats straight right hands whether they follow a jab or not. Again, he is no great fighter like Roy and Bhop. He barely beat bhop. You dont get that much credit for SD win and you did not land **** or even kind of land a hard punch.
