Would Canelo Alvarez, Danny Jacobs, and GGG be able to compete with the Fabulous 4 from the 80’s?

Not if GGG lands the same amount of shots that he landed on Canelo and he hurt Saul badly in the 10th with a shot that might have stopped Roberto.

Leonard only lost one fight at middle to Camacho when he was 40, the draw he had with Hearns was at super-middle and so was his win over Duran in their third fight, or at least his 168 WBC belt was on the line in that bout.

We are talking about Duran here not Sims. Sims was a tricker scrapper but he was not great fighter. A little bit like a poormans Marvin Hagler, but he was a decent fighter and Duran was coming off a layoff in a way and he was topped by Hearns two years before. And he went on to win the title against Barkley in 1989, a very good matchup for him. Although the Duran of 1986 I think was a diminished Duran from 1984. Not too much, but a little.

But Roberto is going to be landing also if someone is in his range. And Roberto had a hard right hand. He was a hard puncher even at 160 regardless of people here wanting to turn him into this old fat little guy, he could punch. It would not be easy for GGG.. I don't think.. Duran would love to be in range. Hearns was trouble because he could land and land the jab and not be countered much, it was one way. So was Benitez.. If Duran has an equal chance he does well.

Duran was really good in 1983 v Moore and only lost to an awesome Hearns display in `84 partly because of the massive reach difference coupled with Tommy`s fast powerful fists, total mis-match, I don`t think any fighter with arms as short as Duran`s would have stood a chance with Tommy.

Duran would not have hurt GGG with the right hands he landed on Hagler.

There's not going to be any weight advantage. This is strictly a matter of changing weigh-in practices, not "modern rehydration techniques" or some such nonsense. (If I'm wrong, someone please cite the papers published since ~1985 upon which these modern rehydration techniques are supposedly based.)

Leonard was pretty badly outclassed by Terry Norris when he was (I think) 38. I remember this because it was one of the very first fights I ever watched, and unfortunately my first Leonard fight.

I'm sure they would be capable of being competitive for the most part, ggg vs hagler would particularly be a sight to see, or hearns vs canelo for that matter. I'm tempted to bet on the old guys here tho

He was a shot 34 when he was badly beaten by Norris and retired again after that but came back 6 years later to fight against macho Camacho.

Granted, but the weights were all within the middleweight mark... if you fudge 2 pounds on Hearns.

Do you see Duran hitting Golovkin with anything hard enough to drop him?

If we were still under the same day weigh-in rule, Jacobs would almost certainly not have fought at 160, definitely not for as long as he has. I'm doubtful that GGG would have stayed as long as he has, and Canelo would already be at 168 full time.

I tend to agree about Jacobs, but what actually happened when the weigh in rules changed is that everyone generally stayed in the same weight division. They might stay at 160, or at least GGG and Canelo.
