I was bit with the boxing bug at 23. Boxing not being on HBO or SHOWTIME, and more of the free tv networks hurts boxing now.

    Cojimar 1946,

    Nobody has said otherwise.

What I’m saying, is that he wasn’t an in your face pressure fighter like Dempsey was.

    Dempsey was like Joe Frazier.

    He didn’t let you breathe.

So it was a completely different style to have to contend with.

    Why?

Obviously you can’t have followed his career.

After his losses to Ward, he was getting knocked out by B level guys.

He clearly had confidence issues and diminished punch resistance.

Even if Canelo had beaten a prime Kovalev, and you believe that Kovalev was better than Dempsey, it still wouldn’t have guaranteed Canelo a win over Dempsey.

Simply because the sport doesn’t work like that.

    That’s triangle theory.

But as we know, styles make fights.

I don’t believe so. But again, it doesn’t matter.

This is looking at Canelo fighting Dempsey.

It wouldn’t matter if Canelo had beaten 10 Kovalev type fighters.

Dempsey would have been a completely different stylistic fight.

    So just concentrate on that.

A small defensive counterpuncher, with a small reach, slow feet and stamina issues.

    Vs

A fast and aggressive, power punching pressure fighter.

I think there was a strong possibility that he could have done.

But it doesn’t make any difference whatsoever.

It’s completely irrelevant to a Canelo vs Dempsey fight.

Yep, old school boxers are usually associated fine technique, experience, and grit. They had to fight often just to make a living. They say James Toney and Mike McCallum are old school and those dudes are scary good, trained by old school trainers. Dempsey was an old school Cruiserweight slugger, assentially, famous for a reason. I would go with Dempsey.

Canelo always has trouble with boxers that can move well.

Jack Dempsey Savages Canelo badly and tears him in half.

Why don’t you just do a fantasy fight and ask for opinions?

It has nothing to do with boxing evolution.
