Would Canelo be labeled as a 'bum' if GGG T/K.O him ?

Wow, really? Sounds like Canelo should stay at 154 then. Much safer for him. If he can, LOL.

I have no way of knowing how well GGG can or can't cut weight. My guess is that if he could cut to 155 safely he would have taken Canelo on already. We all saw how bad Geale looked against Cotto after cutting a couple of lb too many.

Of course he should stay @ 154 if he wants to fight guys his size.
Even @ 154 he gives up decent size to the likes of Andrade and Hurd and GGG is the next level up in size.

Canelo should realistically clear out his own division first but he's being pressured hard by HBO to fight their golden goose. Not to say he can't beat him and if we could magically make them the same size or if GGG drained down to Canelos weight than he would wipe the floor with him but @ 160 GGG is obviously a heavy favourite.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but it's well known that come fight night Canelo is heavier than Golovkin.

And not to point out the obvious, but Canelo is struggling to keep under the 154 limit these days, in fact he missed weight in the past iirc.

He's going to have no choice but to move up to 160 soon. The only question is whether he can dodge Golovkin long enough so that Golovkin gets old. My guess is probably not, since Golovkin depends more on technique and strength, rather than speed or reflexes which are young man's attributes.

    Pure fantasy and propaganda

Has he ever missed weight? I don't believe he ever has? I know he has had fights @ 155 but they were scheduled at that weight.

The highest weight Canelo has ever fought at is 155, he weighed 154 against Smith and he looked as good as ever
GGG fought Brook @ 158.9, the lowest he has ever weighed @ a weigh in is 158.5

@158.9 GGG looked like an Auschwitz concentration camp victim, he looked so bad the whole world thought he was sick in the lead up. In the fight with Brook he looked lethargic and only pure size, strength and power saved him from an embarrassing defeat against a far smaller opponent who was hitting his noggin with ease every time he threw a punch but GGG being so much larger absorbed the mosquito bite punches and walked Kell down (Kell Brook is even a little smaller than Canelo)

Canelo weighs 165-170 on any given night with a peak ring weight near 175
GGG weighs 170-175 with a peak ring weight 180+

"Former junior middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez knew ahead of time that he would not be able to make the 154-pound weight limit for Saturday night's showdown with Mexican countryman Alfredo Angulo at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, so an increase was negotiated ahead of Friday's weigh in. According to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Angulo agreed to change the contract to 155 pounds. In addition, Alvarez, who is due to earn a minimum $1.25 million, agreed to pay Angulo and additional $100,000, raising his purse to $850,000."

    http://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/...gotiated-saul-alvarez-vs-alfredo-angulo-fight

“When he fought me he came into the ring at 187lbs. I was only 158lbs. Canelo says he isn’t the same weight as Golovkin, but what is he talking about! He’s almost as big as a light heavyweight,” said Khan to 7days.ae.

    http://www.boxingnews24.com/2016/07/khan-canelo-weighed-187-fought/

That said, Khan doesn't say where he got that figure from. But there's also this:

"the massive-shouldered Alvarez dwarfed Cotto and had the Puerto Rican veteran circling onthe back foot for most of the fight. After the bout, Cotto’s trainer Freddie Roach estimated that Alvarez had packed on 30 pounds since the weigh-in, thereby rehydrating to a hypothetical 185 pounds."

    http://www.fightsaga.com/news/item/6472-canelo-alvarez-weight-size-power-rehydration

These sound like educated guesstimates, to be honest. If we have to go with the last factual fight night weight for Canelo we have this:

"Canelo reportedly stepped inside the ring last Saturday night at 174 lbs for his bout against Alfredo Angulo (22-4, 18 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada."

    http://www.boxingnews24.com/2014/03/canelo-weighed-174-lbs-for-angulo-fight-last-night/

The heaviest GGG has been fight night is 173 vs Rubio iirc. Against Monroe he was 170. If you have any other quoted figures for GGG that place him as heavier, let's hear them.

As far as I'm concerned GGG and Canelo are about the same, with the strong possibility that Canelo rehydrates to quite a bit more. Saul is killing himself to make 154 and frankly can't be doing his body any good. He should just fight Golovkin.

Nobody weighs these guys before their fights thats why they are unofficial, GGG never gets on no scale as he is entering the ring?

Khan just made excuses, before the fight he said he was going to weigh 165 in ring and Canelo 187 haha that's special, that isn't even freaking possible

See Canelo weighed 155 as you can read was the agreed weight

I said: "Canelo is struggling to keep under the 154 limit these days, in fact he missed weight in the past iirc."
You said "Has he ever missed weight? I don't believe he ever has?"
I quoted "Canelo Alvarez knew ahead of time that he would not be able to make the 154-pound weight limit for Saturday night's showdown"
You said: "See Canelo weighed 155 as you can read was the agreed weight"

My point however, was that Canelo is struggling to make 154. And that point stands. 155 is not 154.

He's actually a 160 guy with great powers of shedding and regaining weight.

As he gets older he's going to find it increasingly hard to maintain the fiction that he is smaller than Golovkin, which is simply not true. That's because older guys can't shed weight as easily as younger guys, and be fit to fight afterwards.

Alvarez is making himself old before his time.

    He should just fight Golovkin.

    Not a bum but not as good as his fans think he is when you take his advantages away;

    Smaller fighters being dragged up

    No rehaydration clauses

Outweighing opponents by 15lb-20lbs on fight night

Loose rule application when it comes to diuertics

:bandit: Many Mexican fans & others no longer rate El Pollo Canelo as a "BOXER" !

:risas3: Between Cocaine O$car's/GBP stupid comments and Canelo "SURRENDERING THE BELT"...

Canelo's reputation is in the TOLIET !

IMO... unless Canelo fights GGG... Canelo's going to DROWN !!!

Of course he will be called a bum. Whoever Golovkin beats will be marginalized to downplay his success.

What's really sad, there are members on this forum who have to conscientiously keep track of Golovkin's opponents and the opponents they've beaten in order not to give them any credit. Whether they like their fighting style or not. The spite runs that deep.

Canelo's advantage at 154 is he hydrates 20-25 pounds. He doesn't have that advantage at 160 hence why he has created his own 155 pound weightclass. Canelo will get brutally KOed at 160 not just by GGG but by other Middleweights as well. Oscar knows this.
