Would Chad Dawson always have had problems with Tommy Karpency?

I admit that I have never been as convinced about Dawson as many on ESB. Its not that he is not a good fighter, but I felt many of his bigger wins were against fighters over a decade older, like Tarver twice, Johnson twice, Hopkins. I seem to rthink I recall reading that Adamek was drained at the weight and Adamek wasnt really a top LHW.

People use the word prime, but often also use it to suit.
Now Dawson had beaten Hopkins a fighter nearly 20 years older than him, dropped weight and lost to Ward, then went back to LHW and was KOd by Stevenson then won a tuneup, which leads to the Karpency fight where Karpency won a decision.
Was Dawson not prime after his 3nd defeat to Stevenson?

Now Dawson wasnt massively outworked like he was against Pascal, wasnt drained down to SMW like he was against Ward, wasnt KOd by a big puncher like he was against Stevenson, but was outpointed by Karpency.
Karpency used his boxing skills to beat Dawson, so the question is, would Dawson always have had trouble with Karpency?

Keep in mind Chad didn't have his trainer in his corner, and he did injure his left shoulder so he couldn't use his left hand. That made his offense very predictable, even Karpency acknowledged this. He said he noticed that Chad hurt his left shoulder in the third round. If Chad didn't injure his shoulder he probably would have won.

The odd thing though is that Chad never had problems with his shoulder. I guess it was bad timing, but after the Stevenson KO you had that feeling he was never going to be a top contender again.

Do you feel that the loss ruined him and from here on in, he is no longer prime?

He got the prime knocked out of him by Ward and Stevenson

**** Pascal might have been the one to take it away actually

yeah I think it was Pascal

So do you feel many fighters are no longer prime after a loss?
Dawson arguably had his biggest win after the Pascal loss, when he beat Hopkins

Chad is completely done. He just doesn't seem motivated anymore to be a top contender again. Everytime he steps in the ring he looks like he's questioning himself, which says a lot about this confidence.

Chad was always a mentally weak boxer with attitude problems. He has the physical skills to be a great fighter, but mentally he is not tough.

I have often noted that a loss can be greater than it seems at first and affect some fighters

Dawson lost what was left of his prime when he got KTFO by Stevenson.

No fighters aren't automatically done after a loss

But Pascal really took something from Dawson

or maybe he lost it earlier

    I don't know

    but the guy just wilted

    He was not the same

I find it ironic that you highly value Joe's split decision win over 45 year Hopkins but don't think highly of Dawson's unanimous decision over Hop.

You criticize Dawson for fighting the hill fighter yet thats what you hero built his career of off. I see your agenda.

By the way, Dawson that fought Adameke would have schooled Joe Calzaghe.

    1. Dawson would not have schooled Calzaghe he couldn't even keep up with Pascal who is levels below Calzaghe especially in areas of stamina.
    2. Both Calzaghe and BHOP weren't prime while Dawson was.
    3. We get a thread from Bailey that doesn't have Calzaghe in it and you mess it up WTF.

Chad Dawson's last good win was over hopkins in april of 2012...

Since then he has not won a significant fight. Maybe since he has lost two fights in a row now maybe he can move up in weight to fight a shot to **** champion who should probably be in a wheel chair and become a lineal champ. That way he will be a top fighter again.

    jk.

He's still more relevant than Cotto...

But his career has gone down the tubes. I don't think he cares much for boxing anymore. Especially after the two back to back stoppages.

No, the Dawson of a few years ago doesnt lose a single round against Karpency.

Whatever Dawson once had seems to be gone.
