There is a spectrum. joshua is not elite. Got his ass beat by a tub of ice cream

If this forum were around in 1990, you probably would have said the same about Mike Tyson and his loss to Douglas.

Tyson beat more ranked guys, wasn't mainly built off fighters near their 40s, went undisputed and wasn't getting his ass beat by an obese tub of ice cream in his prime. Tyson would drill aj into the canvas. Fighters i believe are overrated like Pinklon Thomas, Tyson Fury, Ron Lyle, Holyfield and Michael Moorer would also beat joshuas ass

    No.

I do want to point out that Usyk is a natural orthodox who fights southpaw, so it would be crazy if he fought Cooney, a natural southpaw who fought orthodox.

You think cooney’s jab could be a factor as well? He used it well at times against Holmes and in many other fights.

I think he would have ok success with it. But Usyk is extremely good at taking away the jab especially if the jab is not very fast. Hard though not impossible to jab a leftie as Fury and Hunter showed.

Usyk beats Cooney up like Spinks did.

I don’t know how Usyk will look at that point, but assuming he doesn’t take too much damage until 40, I’d still pick a 40 year old Usyk to get the win over prime Cooney.

Usyk wins no question but C’mon. Cooney was a coke addict and a shell of himself. He looked much better years later against Foreman.

I don't know if he looked better, but Usyk is also a better HW than Spinks was, so it's irrelevant.

If he’s in shape and motivated then yes. Cooney had underrated boxing skillls and a damn good jab along with decent height and reach. His biggest problem was he lacked head movement and didn’t take it too well. But I think an early 1980s Cooney could have at least been competitive.

Maybe…. But using the Spinks fight is a poor example. Cooney had only fought once in three years and from how he looked that night didn’t even train.
