Would Cotto Have Done Better With Hatton?

If Hatton had fought Cotto in the shape that he was in when he fought Floyd, would Cotto have taken out Hatton easier?

Cotto is probably physically stronger than Floyd and has a heavier punch but he's never had to face the type of swarmer-clincher Hatton represents. If this was fought with an English ref, how do you see this fight going?

Hatton can't cope at 147. He doesn't have the same kind of strength advantage.

at 140 this fight would've made sense, and Hatton had actually talked about it before Hatton - Tszyu

I guess it depends on what you mean by 'better'. He has superior strength and power over Floyd, so he would have probably gotten rid of Hatton a little earlier and more brutally, also because he's more offensive minded. The same has happened with all former Mayweather opponents that Cotto's fought.
On the other hand, he would have likely gotten hit more in the process as well, so again it depends on what you think is better.

At 147 Cotto is the worst fight Hatton could make. He would get destroyed and probably hurt in the process. It's one of those "never the same again" fights for him.

Oddly, Hatton would have had a decent chance at 140 if he got his weight right and his plan right - around the time Cotto was struggling to make the weight.

Do you guys think Cotto can adapt to Hatton's clinching however? Hatton's a master of shutting down the other guy's offense and unleashing his own. Assume they're fighting in England.

Hatton is not big enough to fight at 147, 140 he is good, but not at 147 as shown in his first fight. Cotto would stop him. Hatton would not have done as well vs. Cotto as he did vs. Mayweather. That is the reason we have weight classes, not all boxers can move up in weight, some fought at the same weight their entire career.

I agree with those who say that it would have ENDED earlier, but would have been a TOUGHER fight (for Cotto; and Hatton even)...

To be honest, I reckon it coulda been an awesome fight. Style wise.

EDIT: Cotto stops him before 10 though, if the fight turned out how I'd like it too; didn't make that clear last time.

Yep. That is why there are so many different weight divisions and rightly so.

power = cotto... the bigger frame and the stronger body and punches, i dont see cotto losing to hatton in a brawl

jab = cotto... he's developed a great jab throughout his more recent fights, it's fast and stiff

so umm yeah.. with just those 2 advantages i'd say he'd put hatton away under 6rds... hatton vs cotto at 147 is a complete mismatch in my opinion... cuzz cotto's banged it out with the likes of tores aswell as judah who has a pretty nasty uppercut... and ko'd both of them, and i dont see hatton doing that at all.... but it would still be a good fight to make cotto look good.. but yeah, a complete mismatch in my book

Cotto would utterly destroy Hatton. Hatton has abandoned his best weapon, the body punch.

    Cotto has not.

Cotto would KO Hatton in 6 rounds or less.
