Would Cus have tried to protect Mike from any fighters?

Tyson was only 19 when Cud died. He still could have developed a lot and would not need protection from any fighters imo. And if Cus never died he could potentially stay undefeated till the early 2000 and beat the Klitchkos.

    Nobody picking Ali ?

Ali bridged the Liston - to - Foreman era.

D'y'all suppose Cus would have been ok with Mike facing Ali ?

Is this a joke? Ali was like 40+ and parkinson's had made him a borderline zombie by the time Tyson was a ranked contender.

I believe Liston would whup Tyson even worse than Foreman would.

    Not so sure about that.

I would pick both to beat him, but I think Foreman would be a worse opponent for Mike.

And I would make prime mike a favourite over old Foreman.

Holyfield, Holmes, both Klitschkos, Lewis. I think Tyson looked kind of bad vs. Holmes until he sparked him, and I think his bobbing and weaving defense is terribly overrated because of some awesome highlights where he looks unhittable. In reality he did spend a lot of time with his hands under his chin not really doing a ton and taking some shots (underrated chin). Tyson is among the greats but not without parallel and Mr. Paranoia himself would not allow his golden goose redux anywhere near some of the top guys of the 90s, much less guys like prime Foreman or Liston.

The way the discussion had been going was assuming Cus was still alive and continued managing Tyson.

    Fair enough.

But that would take Liston out of the conversation,

As for Tyson in the 60's, it would be impossible to outmaneuver Liston if Tyson replaced Patterson as Cus' main guy of that decade. There was only 1 belt at the time and we saw how much pressure people put on Patterson to give Liston a shot. Given how much money Tyson brings in and his vast potential, I think how it would go is Tyson wipes out Ingo, machen, Folley, Chuvalo, Cooper, etc with Cus milking out the tile and getting Tyson as much experience as possible until the inevitable clash. Maybe a match with Williams as a litmus test before the big showdown.

They'd probably sign a rematch clause as a safety precaution. As for the fight, hard to envision, but prime vs prime I think Liston wins at least once, possibly winning the 1st or 2nd but Tyson keeps the title in the end with his edges in hand speed and combination punching. Cus probably avoids Ernie "the octopus" Terrel as long as he can not because the fight isn't winnable, but because it's both boring and dangerous. We'd see flashes of Tyson vs Tucker/Smith and a frustrated booing audience due to a lack of dynamic action. Tyson ends the decade winning UD over Bonavena in a fun slugfest and a come from behind 9th round KO over Buster Mathis.

Then there's the Louisville Lip looming over the horizon...I think this leads to a possible split with Cus who once again tries to stall and avoid the match. He'd know this could either make or break Tyson and it's a legacy defining fight. Negotiations would be difficult as the NOI isn't happy to allow Ali to take a much smaller purse or let Cus dictate everything. Cus makes some excuse about not wanting to deal with thugs and intimidators and Tyson leaves to work with Eddie Futch most likely. On paper, this would be a very intriguing matchup as Futch helped orchestrate some of Ali's defeats and both would be in their primes. It's anyone's guess what happens. If Tyson loses, expect him to unravel and become erratic similar to the main timeline. Ali would be living rent free in his head for years as he spirals out of control. If Tyson won, he'd probably retire as there's not much else to do at this point, but there's still a possibility he goes crazy anyways because he's a rich, young, loose cannon with so many bad habits and would think he's invincible.

Foreman is on YouTube saying he really "wanted no part of Mike Tyson" and seems to mean it. He speaks of Tyson being a "monster" he feared. But then George also said his knees were shaking when he fought Joe Frazier.

Politely I did say “I reckon” I don’t care what was said these are just my thoughts on the matter. People can say as they want I’m free to think likewise.

I think that he would have matched him a bit more carefully than he was.

    That is my hunch.

Mike answers this question in his autobiography.
He says cus wouldnt have wanted him to fight pinklon thomas that early, and also razor ruddock i believe.

Pinklon actually won the last 3 rounds before tyson just bombed him out with pure force.
