Would Cus have tried to protect Mike from any fighters?

The question is whether Cus could have protected him from Don King.

Everyone in the world told Tyson that Don would advantage of him and take him to the cleaners, but he didn’t want to hear it.

Some people have to learn the hard way.

Yes, but Buster fought a magnificent fight.

Buster certainly put in a great performance but in my estimation, Tyson was half the fighter that he was when peak.
But that's a whole different topic.

That peak being … the fight right before Buster?

The fastest 50% dropoff in the history of sport, much less boxing, without a major injury.

Douglas was a big strong man with a monster jab who took it to Tyson from the opening bell. He showed no fear of Tyson — don’t forget that about half of Cus D’Amato’s teachings were about fear, and Mike hadn’t had a lot of experience against fighters who were absolutely unafraid of him and equipped to do something about it. In fact, I think Big Bus put some fear into Tyson early in that fight.

I think Tyson started looking pretty bad around the Bruno fight and slid down from there, ok maybe not 50% but he wasn't nearly as good imo. The head movement, body punching, working out of the clinch & other things were becoming less & less, Mike was often head-hunting, looking for the quick KO. He got what he wanted against Williams with that single beautiful hook that sent The Truth into lala land. But after that he really declined.

I'm not one to ponder 'who would get into whos' head' and things of that nature but Tyson was obviously a loose cannon, no doubt.

Buster Douglas was big, strong, rangy and athletic. He had a great jab and power in both hands. All he lacked was the confidence and determination that separates champions from the rest. But on that one great night he had it all. He was in great shape for once and had a perfect game plan. It's a shame that he let himself fall apart so quickly after that fight. The Buster who fought Tyson might have beaten Holyfield as well, don't you think?

To be fair to Holmes, the grill takes out every drop of fat from whatever is placed in it, leaving it dry and virtually tasteless.

Holy is my fourth favorite fighter, but I've always thought Tokyo Douglas would've decisioned him in one for the ages.

Fair but we really don't know what would've happened in speculations we can only go by what occurred. We saw Tyson was a special fighter but thru his demise he's still to blame for much of that. He became champion without Cus too just couldn't stay disciplined. Tbf, even if he could it's likely he would've sustained an injury given how much strain the peek a boo puts on ur back. That part I dont think ppl highlight enough.

Even an unmotivated Tyson almost knocked him out. Holy ofc doesn't have that power but I can't see him being that undisciplined to lose to Douglas at his peak or near peak. Maybe the Holyfield that lost to Moorer n of Bowe 3 but I can't c a 89-93 Holy losing to any Douglas.
