After I saw Brock Lesnar lost to Mir, I was wondering, would those succesful wrestlers who fought in the UFC a few years ago could still do it now? If I remember correctly, since the sport was still new, most of them had very little striking and choking experience, only grapple. Or has the game and fighting style evolved enough that the fighters need to be good in every aspect of the game (strikes, chokes, etc) Lastly, do you think a few more years in the octagon will improve Lesnar to the point that he'll be a threat to the title?
I think you're asking if really good wrestlers can be easily succesfull in MMA, short answer is yes, long answer is not as quickly or easily as they used to. Dan Severn is still fighting and winning even at 50+ years old.
Yes they would. You have to realize that the training is different now. Those same wrestlers would have more training in the others aspects of the fight game too. The better training is the reason why MMA has evolved.
Exactly. Meaning they might have had the same physical and mental tools as, or even more then the fighters do today but they were pretty much playing a different game in a sense. MMA has evolved and changed. It is no longer Wrestling vs BJJ, or Kickboxing vs Wrestling. Now it is MMA vs MMA, and thats it. They would have just simply trained differently, maybe harder and maybe for longer before stepping up. Also the competition is much greater now.
Dunno about that, but he deserves alot more credit than he gets, he should be mentioned on the same level as Gretzky in my mind, without him Gretzky wouldn't have won nearly as many championships.
He gets alot of credit in NY...When Gretzky left the Oilers...Mark led them to the cup. In NY who has not won since 46 Messier willed them to the finals with that epic performance against the Devils... He won the cup for the Rangers..The Rangers..yes the NY Rangers..thats not possible and he did it. Were talking about the Rangers here right?
I loved playing NHL 94 (i think 94) on Sega Genesis with the Rangers, although Leech was my favorite.
