If he wins against GSP he has defeated the very best fighters at two weights, would that make him the best p4p?

Fedor is obviously held in very high regard here, but wouldn't defeating Stevenson and Sherk at LW as well as Hughes and GSP at WW, and many others, beat dominating at just one weight?

Of course not. Fedor is light years ahead of everyone else. Fedor has been dominating people his own size as well as people many tens of pounds bigger than himself for many years. It is not his fault that there are not more divisions above hw. In reality he has beaten fighters that have more size advantage on him than Penn has and ever will.

Even beside that Fedor is just on another level completely.

Having said that - among the mortals (because Fedor is really just special and another fighter at that level is unlikely to be repeated in our lifetimes) GSP is one of my favorites and one of the very best for sure as is Penn.

I think it would put him at p4p number 1 as he would have ebaten p4p guys at 2 weight classes, i agree in skills fedor is hard to match but it hink penn would be number 1.

Penn is amazing. I think that it is very hard to calculate who is greater Pd 4 pd out of Penn, Silva, and Fedor. GSP is great too... but I don't think he is at their level yet. Penn, Silva, and Fedor do everything great.

You know this p4p thing is becoming real legit in MMA. Fedor owns the Heavyweights so its kinda hard to call him p4p the best although hes obviously got his claim. Thing is though you got Anderson Silva who cleaned out Middleweight nearly and just killed a decent 205er. BJ has defeated every Lightweight Champion in UFC/Pride history beat Hughes at Welterweight,Renzo Gracie at Middle and gave Machida a fight at 205. If BJ beat GSP this time a guy who could easily fight at 185 then yeah you would have a good case.

the difference is Fedor beats guys at the time of the fight that are 20-30 pounds heavier, in the ring, not just walk around wait.Silva last night was just as big as Irvin and had a bigger reach. See the hw can be a wide variety of sizes unlike the other divisions. When you go up and down in divisions fight night guys are alot closer in weight and size.

Well, the difference between 135 and 175 is much bigger than between 215 and 255. Duran at LW wouldn't have much chance against any champ at LHW, while I think most would favour a prime Ali over any 250+ lbs fighter that ever lived. There's obviously differences between boxing and MMA, but I think this holds true for both.
