What a great question. I would say 1st or 2nd, favoring first. But I have no problem with SRL of 1981 being #1.

Duran on that one particular night?....Yes. I think so...with apologies to Kid Gavilan.

I also say yes. That night Duran was as good as anyone ever at 147, or within a whisker of it.

Duran was on fire that night. He was closing distance and making Leonard who was blazing fast miss more punches than he usually missed in 3 fights. Duran was cat quick and he was in great condition. I don't see how anyone would want to be in the ring with Duran that night. Nobody has an easy night. Robinson had Ungodly ability and he would have to use all of it.

One of the best fights of his career for Duran when he beat leonard, so yes definitely. He would have given the other sugar the fight of his life. Duran was a beast against leonard and Robinson would need everything he's got to keep that Duran off him. So the answer s yes.

for me he beat a peak prime leonard, duran did....u hear the rumours sugar ray wanted the rematch fast because he heard Duran was way out of condition and wouldn't be the same force. That's how he won the return imo...he (ray) got it spot on the snakey ****

    Not sure.

People are talking about "Duran on that night" but Duran has the advantage over Robinson's opponents because we've all the clear full film of that Duran.
How can we be sure how great Tommy Bell or Kid Gavilan or Bernard Docussen or whoever were "on THE night" without the same level of material to make a judgment ?

Duran that night was a man on a mission. Completely fit to fight 15 fast rounds, quick, hard punching with a great strategy to win. I watched this bout live and was on my feet most of the time.

He was simply a force of nature.
Plain and simply at his best one of the 10 best fighters of all time.
    Just my opinion of course.

To be certain though we would probably need to review the films of the Gavlian/Robinson bouts. I`m sure that was some high level fighting going on. The Kid is one of the greatest Welterweights in history of boxing.

Yes. Duran was probably better than any welterweight Robinson fought.
