Would Eddie Chambers and Arreola been ATGs if there were no Eastern Bloc fighters?

Probably. It is not so hard to imagine this scenario. Poor guys, they were born in the wrong time.

No both would be champs temporarily, Chambers would do better, Haye beats both, Toney, Thompson or Brewster and PEter may have had more HW success. In this type of scenario I can see Hopkins or Dawson trying for a HW title.

His best win is probably Dimitrenko but the Peter fight is a close second. Trust me, Chambers isn't impressive looking but he's got the defensive skill set, reflexes and hand speed to give top contenders headaches. Honestly, if there were no Eastern European boxers on the scene, he'd beat almost everyone IMO. Helenius and Fury aren't ready. Haye, yes Haye, and Arreola would get countered all day even though a decision win against Haye in the U.K. is unlikely. He's the classic case of being far better than he looks.

Agreed. I think JCC, Solis, and Haye would be his biggest challenges, i'd favor JCC and a semi in shape Solis.

If you go by Klitschko fan standards, then absolutely. They think that if a fighter dominates, no matter how good or bad they they or how good their opposition is, they are great fighters, so by that standard, they would be. If Butterbean dominated, as long as they are consistent, he would be a great fighter.

However, that's a nonsense argument and has no credit to it. A great fighter is someone who doesn't just dominate, but who has great attributes. Neither Chambers or Arreola are anything above average fighters and even if they had 20 defenses of a lineal title, shouldn't be regarded as anything other than average.

How many dominant hw champs aren't considered ATGs? None, the current hw division is always considered weaker than previous generations, during the 90s the division was considered weak, but now most people consider it to be good. Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks are considered ATG by many, but who was there during their reigns?
