I think he'd have a shot. He's an incredibly small HW and he'd be a really, really big CW. I remember reading a Steve Cunningham interview that mentioned him sparring with Chambers and he mentioned how much bigger Chambers was. Obviously, physical size wouldn't be the end-all but I think Chambers has the skill set to thrive in the competitive division.
Factor in that he wouldn't be dealing with people with the reach of Klitschko. Recall how he was essentially dominating Povetkin a few years back with counters until he tired due to the Russian's impressive work rate. Given the dearth of talent at 200 right now, I'd give him a great shot of becoming the Man.
I guess we will see how Chambers bounces back. What about in Europe? The CW division I thought was pretty popular over there. Plus, the Germans probably would want to see him fight Marko Hucko.
I think Huck v Chambers would be alot like Povetkin v Chambers. Huck would outwork Chambers to a UD. Also, I don't like the claims that cruiser is the worst it's ever been. Cruiser never gets the respect when it deserves it. Huck, Ross, Lebedev, Flores, Afolabi, Cunningham, Godfrey, Green are not bad fighters at all. Then considering the wave of fighters leaving cruiser: Banks, Haye, Adamek, Mormeck.... There would be some decent match ups at cruiser if fans gave it some respect.
Agree completely. I think it's a really competitive division and not because everyones bad, I think there's a lot of really good fighters in the division; you can even add on to your list even more names.
^This. The guy will make much more as a HW contender than he would if he managed to become the undisputed CW champ.
it would take about 8 years...since no one seems to fight anymore..only one is huck thats active it seems
Agreed. Cunningham's deal with Don King runs out on the 28th and he isn't happy(naturally) so hopefully he becomes more active.
