    http://www.nowboxing.com/2015/01/interview-with-british-boxing-legend-chris-eubank-sr/34924/

This is the 3rd interview I have posted where Eubank says they did not spar. No offense to bulldog 24 I have no clue who he is. I hope they did spar...I just have not heard it before this. I would love a link to the interview...

To my knowledge Chris maintains between 88-89 at Gleason’s McCallum didn’t want to spar. He also says consistently that he was cutting 19 lbs to make MW limit, and that if he didn’t move up to SMW guys like Toney & McCallum would stop him with body attacks....not that he couldn’t beat them, but that he could no longer beat them at that weight. He also said he wouldn’t give McCallum a shot, because he had chased him for 19 months, and now that Mccallum wanted a big payday to fight, that Chris was not going to help him.

Yeah, I hate that he got booted. I feel they could have just deleted a few posts of 3 (nameless individuals lol) rather than booting him. If he is not back Monday I will keep it going till he is back....I think I know what fight was next froma PM he sent me so Hearns Leonard might have to wait till the following week.

OK Cool!! My guess it's a 2 week boot, can't say the mods weren't patient with them going back and forth a bit. But they went way to far imo… Anyway, I would do FOTW but don't want to step on anyones toes and I am not computer savvy enough to do it anyways .. pretty sad actually

And whichever account is true, wasn't Eubank a bit green in 1987? If he did indeed spar with McCallum at that time. Mike himself was near his peak.

Anyhow, these accounts have been goos reads even if they are contradictory.

Yeah, Eubank would have been green at that stage. Not sure why he would spar with Renaldo Snipes at that time either lol. Or with Riddick Bowe later on?

I am not sure why McCallum didn’t spar him (and perhaps they did spar, I just have not seen a credible account yet?)...I am sure he was not intimidated? Perhaps because they might meet in the future and didn’t want to tip his hand? But now I am speculating lol.

By some other accounts they were supposed to spar in 89 as McCallum was prepping for Curry. That to me would be the time frame of a legitimate sparring face off between the 2 of them. I have not heard that they did or did not actually spar at that time...but until a report or film session comes to light I have to assume they did not? I actually hope there is a link as I would love to read it and learn a little

Curry was in 87. Eubank was just starting out then, wasn't he?

If Mike really did pass up the opportunity to spar Eubank there could have been a number of reasons. I don't think it was that he was afraid of Eubanl or any such. Guys at that level have a ton of confidence and generally don't feel inferior to anybody. But he could feel that it wouldn't be useful work sparring with an up and comer trying to make a name for himself. Or he wasn't sparring at all that particular time or he looked to spar with fighters with different characteristics. It could be a number of things. That someone who regularly sparred with a peak Hearns was scared of a yet unknown Eubank would come pretty far down that list for me.

Sorry I did mean 89, but I misspoke. It was in preparation for McCallum vs Herol Graham not Curry.

Michael Marley remembered Johnny Bos raving about Eubank after seeing him train at Gleasons in 86-87. He used to hitch hike from the Bronx and sleep on the steps - usually when Hagler or Qawi were fighting because Johnny Banks Walker and Dennis Milton were used as their spar partners and they were the guys Eubank liked to spar to not have it all his own way - because he wanted to prove himself against the best to see where he was at.

If he says he sparred McCallum he probably did. Merqui Sosa sparred McCallum before Sosa even turned pro. And Johnny Banks Walker didn't have much of a record and was Hagler's main sparring partner for years along with Robbie Sims
