There is a weight difference of about 40 lbs. but that has never mattered to the Gracie's.

Rickson will probably fight again in 2009.

The best case scenario for Rickson would be something like one of the beatings that Nog took from Fedor.

He wouldn't last the distance for one, and unless you consider a brutal beatdown boring, I don't see where you're coming from.

I think we take it for granted just how great and special Fedor really is. I was talking MMA with a good freind last night and the topic switched to Fedor and we started laughing like what cant this guy do ? Hes got very quick and heavy hands, great wrestling ability, awesome ground game John McCarthys right when he says Fedor has the best hips out there hes basically an instant armbar if you end up in his guard, his GNP is probablly the best,he can take a shot,he can adapt in fights and he has fine stamina. We look at guys like BJ,GSP,Silva and talk about how dominant they are but **** we have seen Silva submitted,GSP KTFO in shocking fashion,BJ having a man beat on him in side control for minutes ETC but Fedor is so dominant he doesnt often show signs of weakness. Rickson I respect he was amazing and trust me I got a teacher whos a Rickson Brownbelt I have to hear how ****ing great he is all the time but until he did something in MMA then ill never even consider the taught of even considering him to do semi well with Fedor.

You can never discount a prime Rickson he can stall this match. and Fedor isnt exactly a giant. But Rickson will be spending the whole match on his guard. Its a question of how little to how much damage hes going to take.

I'll assume we are talking about a younger Rickson Gracie, and not a 50 year old man.

If the fight were to take place under today's mma rules- stand-ups, intervals between a limited number of rounds, etc.- I'd say the odds definitely favor Fedor. Fedor has the power to ko Rickson, and would get more chances to so if the fight is continually interrupted. I don't see any chance for a Rickson decision victory in this match-up. Rickson's only chance is to wait for an opening, or mistake, and catch Fedor with a submission.

I do think that the match would be competitive in the sense that there would be a struggle. I don't think that Fedor is going to be so eager to go to the ground. Not that I believe that Fedor fears anyone's ground game. The attempt to keep the fight standing would be strategical. Why give your opponent his best chance at victory? Rickson will be constantly trying to achieve a clinch as long as the fight is standing. With Fedor resisting, the only take down Rickson is likely to achieve is a no gi version of the take down Royce used on Remco Pardoel. Once the fight goes to the ground, Rickson is probably going to have Fedor in his guard the majority of the time. I see little chance for Rickson to get a victroy here. Best case scenario for Rickson is losing a decision.

If the fight were to take place under the rules of the first couple UFC contests, then things are a bit different. Fedor still has the power to ko Rickson, so I'll give him a puncher's chance. I envision the fight looking similar to Dan Severn and Royce Gracie. The larger man pushes his smaller foe around, but is eventually submitted.

If a elite submission fighter like Ricardo Arona - can extend Fedor in an mma fight - then a prime Rickson could certainly go the distance. Under the old vale tudo no time limit rules it is much moire likely that Rickson would be able to find an opening to hook a submission against Fedor.

Fedor is a machine - but in his prime Rickson was an amazing specimen as well. It would be an interesting match to say the least.
