Would Floyd beating cotto or canelo for the wbc middleweight title be significant?

He would beat both Canelo and Cotto easy again.

He has already said he can't make 160.

Honestly at this point there is no named opponent that would do much for Mayweather, it's more about the accomplishment that comes with it. Should GGG get past Lemieux as expected either would be big for the accomplishment that comes with it.

The Cotto-Alvarez winner for the Lineal Title or GGG for a unified MW Title(WBA/IBF).

Best or not, (and at MW he is), Golovkin is not the champion of the division. No one 30 years from now would remember, Floyd won the MW title, but didn't beat "the boogeyman of the division". They'd remember Floyd won the MW title from HOF'er Cotto (if Cotto beats Canelo, which I don't think he does)

but it isn't impressive at all. he already has wins over both cotto and canelo, and cotto won the belt from a shot and injured fighter. that belt means nothing

If you think the WBC title is being held hostage with Cotto... wait till Mayweather gets it.

I hope he doesn't fight either, and I still have doubts that he would.

If Mayweather did fight the winner and dropped the Title the Lineage would be over, same with if the Cotto-Canelo winner dropped it and a new linage would need to be created by unifying all 4 titles

WTF does this mean "cant make 160"? He doesn't have to "make 160". He only has to allow the other guy to weigh 160. Floyd can weigh 150 or 153 or 157 or whatever as long as it's under 160.

Not being "able to make 160" sounds so stupid.

Please advise me where I am misunderstanding.

It's significant in that he wins the linear middleweight title but in reality it adds nothing to his legacy. He's already beaten Cotto and Canelo, doing so again just at a slightly higher weight in reality is just repeating what he has already done.

Him beating Golovkin after he won the title would be more impressive. He could then genuinely say he was middleweight champion and for a former super feather to be middleweight champion is a rare achievement and would add a lot to his legacy.

You're not the first person I have seen write it that way so that's why I inquired.

This may be a stupid question....but can one fighter hold all the belts in one division at once? I thought you couldn't hold more than three in one weight class for some reason.

If Golovkin beats Lee and got the WBC, then he'd have every single belt (I think). He can do that? Which means the only way any fighter would get a belt is by someone beating him? That doesn't sound right.

It if is at a catchweight, then it does NOTHING for his legacy. Draining opponents and winning titles without allowing his opponents to compete at the middleweight limit should be scorned upon. If Floyd beats them allowing them to weigh within the middleweight limit (weights they are comfortable in), then YES it would be impressive :deal
