Would Floyd beating cotto or canelo for the wbc middleweight title be significant?

So, if GGG holds on the belts... then the only way anyone can have a title fight is through him? That doesn't seem fair. :-/ How can the belts be dispersed throughout the division if the person to beat the person continues to get all the belts?

It would be unbelievable impressive. He just have to fight the
unquestionable MW king to gain an appreciation for his achievements. Cotto or Canelo are not unquestionable MW kings, Golovkin is.

If Floyd fights at 160 or even at 154 against MW king, he will be TBE. But he wont do that, instead he will take dummies money and fight once more against hopeless and standard, way past, past prime champion and act like he did something.

I mean isn't the end game to have a real Champion in a weight class?

Even though Beating Lemieux or Lee isn't impressive with the 4 major titles and all these intriem guy acting like real Champions I'm all for unification.

People complain about GGG not getting fights if he was to gain all the titles people would have to fight him.

Depending on who you ask. If you ask someone from the streets they wont remember what Floyd did. If you ask boxing fans, they will tell you the whole story and what he really did. Can´t understand how real fan could allow that kind of a rip-off.

No because any decent fighter would have beat that version of Martinez up, let's say Martin Murray got the decision when he fought Maravilla (I think he got a draw at worst), that was a shopworn Martinez but he wasn't anywhere near as bad as he was against Cotto, Murray holding that win and belt would be a significant fight for Mayweather, Cotto holding the belt after that just isn't as legitimate. Canelo also has precisely how many fights at middleweight?

Only Floyd biggest fans think his legacy is so great that a victory over the reigning MW Champion wouldn't enhance it. GtFO.

No. Especially if that fight in under 160. We all know who is the real champ in this division and it is certainly not the guy that keeps that belt in hostage. Lineal on paper but in fact...

But he isn't the reigning MW champ and he won't be if he beats Canelo, Golovkin is and he would have knocked Martinez out in 3 rounds that night, he's the guy who actually deserved the honour.

Of course it's significant, a 6th belt in 6 weight classes not to mention his 5th lineal title in as many weight divisions.

Most people aren't calling for a Floyd/Golovkin fight, not even "Real" fans. They're calling for Floyd/Cotto, or Floyd/Khan or Thurman or Pacquiao. Golovkin just isn't in the conversation at all other than for people who want to root against him see Floyd absolutely lose (I think he would lose to Golovkin). It won't matter in the scheme of things 10 years after he's retired let alone 30. Were he to beat Cotto or Canelo (especially if Canelo goes on to do even bigger things,) that would be talked about.

I never said "impressive". Both are bigger names than Golovkin and rematches (I personally don't wanna see either again but that's the topic at hand so I'm answering), would be just as big. Consider this, Leonard had already smashed Hearns but the rematch was still big. Holyfield had already smashed Tyson but the rematch was still big. This is no different. It's simple economics and name recognition.

He's already beaten Canelo AND Cotto...no reason to rematch either one.

Except that in victory, this time it would land him the honors of being the lineal middleweight champion. Which is a pretty big legacy enhancer.

Cotto was competitive against him and if he were to win against I think he would clearly be considered an even better version of the Cotto he fought before, so Cotto would be a definite yes.

If Canelo beats Cotto then Cotto just becomes a smoke and mirrors job, and since Canelo did not have competitive fight with Floyd it ends up doing nothing for Floyd to beat Canelo for the middle.
