Would Floyd beating cotto or canelo for the wbc middleweight title be significant?

    I believe you're wrong.

GGG will not get the winner of Cotto-Canelo, and the winner will not get stripped, either.

    Keep telling yourself that.

He beat both of them wide already, that is true.

But do you discount every single victory every boxer has over someone they had already previously defeated? How odd that is...

Winning the MW title would give him lineal championships in a record 5 divisions.

Considering Floyd already beat both what exactly do you want Floyd to prove by beating then again?

cotto won the title against a shot and injured martinez... floyd moving up and fighting either cotto or canelo for the MW title does nothing at all. it isn't impressive or standout in any way. but fl*mos would find a way. just like he got the lineal championship belt from victor ortiz lol. i can name plenty of guys who hold championship belts who don't even fight on a championship level.... but being lineal champion in 5 divisions is impressive some how..

Yeah you're right. I didn't think it'd be possible because I'm so used to the belts being spread out. That's a crazy thought of one boxer holding every single belt. Is there anyone in boxing today who is the completely unified champion in their division?

I like the Cotto rematch because he is one of a handful of guys to give Floyd a competitive fight lately and make him throw those beautiful combinations, that was worth the money... but I don't think the belt he won against crippled Martinez means much, if May were to defend it against Golovkin then sure... but Cotto hasn't even managed to do that. Canelo is a worthy foe for Cotto but not for the belt at a division Alvarez hasn't even ****ing fought at yet... Golovkin has fought a whole career establishing himself as the best there and he still hasn't had the honour of fighting for that particular belt because he didn't bring enough money for Martinez previously or when he wanted to cash out.

Repeating against either at 154 would do some good (not a ton, but some) for his legacy.

Having it be for the MW green belt obviously makes it that much better.

Kind of a free high reward for low risk windfall.

Since Golovkin is becoming a big attraction, PPV, undefeated, and is the BETTER fighter...perhaps WBC realizes this and wants to get Golovkin the belt. They seem really strong advocates. Cotto is beatable, as is Canelo. Golovkin looks unbeatable right now. So maybe WBC wants him to have the belt as he is growing in appeal pretty fast and is unlikely to be exposed in the distant future.

He did not get the lineal championship from Victor Ortiz. Just a WBC strap... He already had won it from Baldomir and then Mosley.

So beating Cotto now wouldn't be impressive or standout at MW who had beaten Sergio at MW, who held the MW title for years, yet there are other MW's out there who would be more impressive and standout victories?

So much so that the Canelo/Cotto winner will be irrelevant? Well then what is the point of people wanting Canelo/Cotto winner to unify with Golovkin or Lee? What would even be the point of those fights?

If a welterweight moving up and beating Canelo/Cotto winner for MW title is irrelevant, than surely a fellow middleweight beating Canelo/Cotto winner for MW title will be even less relevant! Interesting opinion you've got there...

Or are you just conceding that there are no good competitive or worthy fights available for him, even two divisions above his current?

Well beating Canelo at a weight where Canelo can consume more than a carrot and a half a banana a day during camp >>>> the version of him who can only fight in spurts he already beat. And also Canelo has a lot more experience against world class opposition under his belt now than the green one who he fought too.

Cotto is a HOF fighter and if he beat Alvarez he would have the better wins at MW than GGG and is the legitimate Champ.

Alvarez has a better chance at being the standout fighter of this new generation than GGG , and likely beats him imo.

GGG though doesn't have an impressive resume if he gets past Lemieux, would be a Unified Champ (WBA/IBF).

There is really no reason to hate on Mayweather vs any of them, in terms of relevance Mayweather vs the Lineal Champ is bigger.

The two biggest fights in boxing that could be made this year were Mayweather-Pacquiao and Cotto-Alvarez so the winners fighting would be significant regardless. Both Cotto and Alvarez were more competitive than Pacquiao and people wanna see that rematch.

cotto won the title from a shot and injured fighter, that's not impressive.. younger healthy martinez would have sparked cotto just like he sparked williams...

You do know he's only fought an additional 25 rounds since Floyd toyed him 2 years ago?

Not sure what he learned from stalking down Angulo for 10 rounds and gunning after Kirkland in 3 rounds, but hey, maybe that was a treasure chest full of experience.
