Hell no. Mayweather is a small welterweight whereas Leonard was a big welterweight and had no problem at 160. Mayweather would be dwarfed. Why do you think he had a 152 catchweight for Canelo?

It would be insane, more in tune with if Duran (genuinely not via a robbery) beat Hagler.

Leonard was a natural 147 while Floyd is not. Ray was also a younger man challenging a slipping Hagler. Floyd is older and GGG is not slipping. It would be a far bigger win for Floyd.

I was on Stallone's bus, he was at ringside, said that Hagler won that fight, so did Wynton Marsalis..............I had Hagler winning also.................rumors were that Leonard was owned by the Gambino family, don't know if true, but wonder what was in the movie? Vegas, at one time, was owned by the mob, no doubt about that................I remember when Duran fought Leonard, put 63 stitches in Leonard's face at the end of the fight................Duran said that he just wanted people to know what he could have done. Duran's mother was locked him his dressing room, the video was shown..................boxing is crooked, everyone knows that, not all fights are fixed, but many have been. Duran said that he would tell the truth some day. Leonard was a really good fighter, so I don't want to take anything away from Leonard, Leonard was far superior to Mayweather, but Duran was a beast, even above his natural weight.

Golovkin would knock Mayweather out, no doubt in my mind on that one...................

And Leonard still shut him out on one card and just failed to on another. 10 of those were from a butt.

I honestly think it would surpass it in both importance and magnitude. Leonard wasn't 40 years old when he fought Hagler, and unlike Marvin, Golovkin isn't past prime. Leonard vs Hagler was a case where both men were outside of their pinacle, but in this case you'd have one man at his absolute best and another who is long past his.

Floyd beating Golovkin would give him an argument for nr 1 p4p. Of course, lots of people would go on to claim Golovkin was an overrated bum and probably over the hill any way. I can just imagine the "he had trouble with an average WW like Brook and might have lost if Brook didn't sustain a freak injury - Floyd beating him isn't all that".

In fact, he showed against Brook what a nightmare he is against smaller, weaker opponents. Fantastic at cutting off the ring, a good beard and chilling power and accuracy. If Floyd, at his age, managed to keep away for 12 rds while scoring effectively enough himself to pull off the win it would be a truly fantastic achievement.

    Agree on both accounts:

    1. That it would be a fantastic aachievement

    2. The Floyd detractors would down play it in any way they could.

I have to disagree with a lot of posts here.

Obviously GGG is not great yet.Who has he beaten? He has the potential to be great but that is a big difference.

Hagler on the other hand is a universally recognized ATG and one of the best middleweights ever.

As for Leonard catching Hagler slipping, it just needs to be reminded that Hagler was undisputed middleweight champ for the previous 7 years, destroyed highly regarded mugabi the previous year, had not been defeated in 10 years and was only 33 years old.Nobody said Hagler was slipping before the Leonard fight.

Not only the Floyd detractors, though. I think it as a rule takes a while for an achievement to be truly appreciated. I've seen even very good posters who are not Pac detractors pick apart Manny's fantastic run through 140 to 154. If you can pick apart that you can pick apart just about anything.
