I think he has potential to be, yes. It’s still very early to tell but am looking forward to how his fighters look in the ring trained under him.

Most great fighters don’t do all that well as trainers, and it’s the same when it comes to great NBA and NFL players becoming head coach. There may be some exceptions, but usually they don’t do all that well. They have a difficult time understanding why others don’t pick up things as quickly as they do, and why they don’t have the same desire.

Look at the really good trainers through boxing history. Most of them had modest pro careers. Some had none.

I don't see Mayweather excelling at that due to his personality ... I could be wrong but everything we've seen from him suggests this ... The man is too into himself to actually care about sometimet else's success

    Exactly, it's all about HIM.

During the Leo Santa Cruz fight didn't he say something like "Don't make me look bad" to Tank?

    That's a problem

    No. He wouldn't be.

He's one of those people who are great in the ring, but terrible training someone who doesn't have the physical attributes that he does. He probably doesn't have the patience anyway.

The best trainers are the ones who doesn't have great physical attributes because they have to rely on technique instead of physical gifts. That's why guys like Roach and Emanuel Steward are successful at it. Most great boxing trainers aren't even great boxers. They're great strategists and thinkers. There is a reason why so few great boxers ever become good trainers.

If there is any boxer that would make a good trainer, it would be GGG. He's got solid fundamentals and he's got the patience for it.

It's not the nice way to go about things, but it probably works well.

Tank doesn't seem to be too bothered about embarrassing himself, but maybe he couldn't live with shaming his hero Floyd.

A lot of people are like that, better at taking care of others than taking care of themselves. It sucks because it allows exploitative people to rise in the world.

Jeff Mayweather was also a fantastic trainer. Floyd was surrounded by knowledge and absorbed it all to become an atg.

He has the know how. His ability to transmit that knowledge is in question. I've been hoping The Alien would become a trainer for years. It's the same thing, can he effectively transmit what he knows?

You can be a great fighter but a garbage teacher

You can be a poor fighter but a great teacher

Most of the greatest trainers had mediocre short careers

Being able to understand your fighter and working to their strengths is important

Floyd was fortunate that his physical ability matched with the teachings of his uncle & father.

Floyd has the ability to see who "has it" but ultimately that's still down to the fighter. You know how many top tier champions were doubted in their careers? Probably all of them at one stage or another.

As a fighter you also have to be able to make decisions for yourself. Floyd isn't purely the product of his uncle and father. You have to be able to learn from your opponents equally. The learning is done in the ring.

    No way.

Floyd wasn't a born talent, he had to put some serious graft in to achieve what he did.

Whoever he trained, you can guarantee they won't be as dedicated as Floyd was and that would grate on him.
