people will just think Mayweather took him to school. Even if he dioesn't.

Look at the Castillo example. Castillo arguably won the first fight, people say "it doesn't matter cause Floyd took Castillo to school in the second" Really? That 2nd fight is far from a schooling. Its a close decision victory. Yet people still think Floyd was some kind of ATG lightweight, while Castillo is nowhere near that.

Any time Floyd wins, he took his opponent to school, regardless of wether or not he really did. That's just the hype machine that surrounds this dude.

No it wouldn't. Why would it hurt his legacy because he won. He could win this one easily but if doesnt wont count against him as shane is a top welter. So a close UD will be looked at as a good win against a top fighter who is a bit old but was the next best fight to take after pac.

Then how come everyone says he lost the first fight to Castillo? How come no one says he schooled Hoya? And most objective observers say Floyd beat Castillo the 2nd time without controversey. I haven't heard many say he schooled him. Any hype that surrounds Mayweather is well deserved. The guy has fought 40 times over 5 divisions. He's taken on numerous world champs, top contenders, and future HOFers. Despite this, he's never lost or even fought to a draw. Only two guys can say they weren't beat handily by Mayweather.

Alot of the credit he gets is well deserved but imo alot of it is over the top and not deserved but rather created through promotion and PR rather than ring performances and ability.

It doesnt, a win is a win, regardless.

I dont think it'll be that hard for Floyd to gain the win, he's tougher than people give him credit for, much like Wladimir. People thinks putting pressure on him and breaking him down is the way to beat him, but when they get in there, they realize breaking him down is a whole different task and just staying competetive is hard enough.

But most of his perfomances have been excellent, and he has loads of ability.

    its relative.

I consider Floyd an ATG and I agree that most of his performances have been excellent and that he has loads of ability. The judgement I make is: have his performances been as good as perceived to be and does he have as much ability as perceived (by what I consider general consensus).

    I don't think so.

Its very subjective. I think a big consequence of that is how much Floyd stands to lose if he loses to Mosley. I don't expect him to lose to Mosley because like I said I do rate Floyd as an excellent fighter, but the fact that if he does lose to Mosley so much of his career could be called into question could be an indicator that the foundation upon which he has built his status is not very solid.

Like I said, Floyd is great fighter, but not as good as people think. That's my opinion based on nothing other than what I've seen in the ring.

For the record I consider Floyd better than guys like Hopkins, Lewis, Mosley but not as good as guys like Pacquiao, RJJ, Arguello.

Split decision my ass. Money beat Oscar 10 rounds to 2, 9 to 3 if you want to stretch it.

Close fight? The closest you could have it is 8-4.

And what if he clearly beats Mosley? You're basically saying that the guy still needs to prove himself despite being a pro for almost 15 years.

Floyd Mayweather has the lowest connect percentage against him since compubox started taking tally. Better then Whitaker and Jones

There was no promotion for Floyd in the era of Mosley, Tito and Oscar. Hell even Zab got more press early on.

Mayweather did it all himself, he kept winning in dominating fashion, thats why he is where he is today Not because or PR or promotion, but ring performance and ability. Period.
