Would Foreman and Liston really blast out Tyson in two rounds

One of the old questions in boxing, are Foreman and Liston death to Tyson in the ring. I don't believe so, a peak Tyson with his speed, great defence and power spell disaster for both. Tyson was vulnerable to intelligent boxers not powerhouses and even a slow moving Tyson took everything Lewis had for eight rounds.
Patterson's chin was always suspect but Frazier had an excellent chin that only Foreman proved too much for. But Tyson at his peak had a great chin and was never knocked down early in any fight or suffered any flash knockdowns when Douglas knocked Tyson out it was an accumulation and ten lopsided rounds and then getting caught by a great uppercut which he couldn't see because of his swollen eye. Look the Ruddock fights, Tyson can take a great punch and still keep coming.
It is always brought up how Cus said no swarmer could defeat Foreman, but if Cus had live a little longer he may have changed his mind, Tyson is the swarmer who could defeat Foreman and Liston.

Tyson knocks foreman out in 2-3 rounds. Too much handspeed, combinations for foreman and tysons peek a boo would avoid foremans bombs for the most part.

I think Liston knocks tyson out in 8-9 rounds, Liston beats down tyson slowly and mechanical with his jab and uppercuts finally putting him away

I'd favor Tyson over both as of now, with a fight between Liston likely needing a bit more thought and analysis of footage. As I see it now, Liston's jab wouldn't effect the younger, bob and weaving, defensively skilled, technical Tyson. I'll watch a bit more of Liston and see if I can't see anything else in his game. But Foreman, despite the fact that many consider him a stylistic nightmare for Tyson due to the old Puncher vs Swarmer cliche, is too open and overall unskilled technically in my view.

    Tyson wins against Foreman.

Liston beats Tyson, but not in any two rounds.

Anything could happen in either fights. All three of them are huge hitters, with Tyson being the much faster of the three, but with the thiniest resume.

I'd have make Tyson favourite based on that speed advantage.

Liston would bust up tyson on the inside/ or mid range with his uppercuts. Listons 84" reach would and his excellent usage of punching long would keep tyson at bay on the outside as well allowing him to work tyson with the jab until tysons mindset broke down.

Tyson would lose to both and lose bad. Mike always failed when he fought a great fighter. Foreman would break him in round 1 and KO him by 2 or 3, Liston would do the same but it would take a few more rounds.

You consider Liston the better inside fighter? From what I've seen, I don't think that's the case(though I've likely not seen as much of him as you), I think he could have trouble on the inside to mid range similar to how he did with someone like Ruddock, but his compact punches and speed on the inside would allow him to hold his own, the younger, peak version that is.

As far as the mindset part goes, I don't know what to make of it, since we never saw Tyson have any of those problems until his life had gone to **** and his skills had faded. Even then, up to the early 90's, he was still very effective.

Tysons biggest flaw was he was not a very good inside fighter. excellent midrange fighter, not so good inside fighter he could be pushed around and bounced with uppercuts on the inside. Liston was a remarkable inside fighter, part of what makes liston so great is his uncanny ability to fight from all ranges. I think Listons uppercuts and strength would be alot for tyson on the inside.

I rate tyson very highly btw

I don't know about that. Spinks was a great fighter as was Holmes, but theres the whole age and inactivity thing with Larry. But the two greats Tyson lost to- Holyfield and Lewis, both beat Tyson when he was past his best as well. So if you apply the criteria fairly then Tyson is either 2-3 against great fighters or 0-0.

As to the question of Liston and Foreman blasting Tyson out early, not happening. I think both beat Tyson, though Foreman-Tyson is a true 50/50 fight, but its not happening quick. Liston wins on points and Foreman scores a stoppage in the mid to late rounds but I could see it going the exact opposite and Tyson doing it in the same time frame.

Liston was very mechanical and smart he would sit back on his jab being patient and wait for the opening....... he wasnt the dumb aggresive brute brawler foreman was.

ps Tyson had too good a chin to get knocked out early.

Uppercuts I'd say were the best punch to utilize on a young Tyson, being as he was so skilled at avoiding the jab, but his handspeed on the inside was exceptional when he did decide to let them go, though he probably wasn't as effective on the inside as he could've been. Should've been more of a body puncher.

How do you think Liston's chin would've stood up to Tyson's attack? He was capable of getting hit himself on the inside, as a guy like Tyson could've used his speed to get under the jab and utilize his speed and combinations before allowing Liston to get set. If Tyson were to stay on the inside with Liston, then it's a different story, as he gives him a chance to get set and work his game.

Tough to say, I think tyson is the 1st or 2nd greatest puncher who ever lived, there is no such thing as a good chin when your fighting mike tyson. I think Listons defense(head movement upperbody movement, blocking ability are all very good) and would prevent him from taking flush bombs from tyson. I think listons chin was great, but with tysons punching abilities you ever know. I also think listons clubbing KO power in both hands can lay some big dents into tysons solid chin. Liston was a very damaging destroyer because you would try to back away from him when you are hurt, but his incredibly long octupus arms would catch you and finish you off.

Tyson very well could. But liston was remarkably accurate and pistol like with that jab, and he was busy with it. Tyson would think twice before bobbing his way In with the way listons telephone pole jab flies out there. I think tyson best chance is too stay away midrange and try to slip one of listons jab and connect with a counterpunch, that will enable tyson to volley up with lethal combinations that finish off liston. In close, listons damaging uppercuts and unbelievable strength, and dirty rabit punches would spell doom for mike.

Reverse this outcome, and I'd say you have a pretty solid post.

I think Foreman beats Tyson, but maybe not a "blasting out in two rounds." Liston/Tyson is pretty 50/50 in my eyes.
