Nah, anyone who establishes dominance at cruiserweight pretty quickly wants to step up to heavyweight. I'm sure he'd go up to heavy fairly soon.
He'd have been another version of Holyfield. Stepping up and taking on the big boys. Would have been interesting.
Except with a genuine, heavyweight hook. Evander never quite got to that level of power imo. This content is protected
I guess what I meant is, any fighter in his prime (most especially heavyweights) run the risk (with every fight) of being considered past their prime once they receive a good beating. And that good beating could happen anytime, given the relative instablility of the heavyweight division in the past four decades in particular. This content is protected Lewis was considered past it that after each of his knockouts....however, he more than proved us wrong by winning the title four freekin' times.
Yep hed have being more powerful and maybe seemed more impressive initially as he stepped up, that I agree on. Not sure he'd have been around as long as Holy tho, his style of fighting never seems to be as successful for heavy s over a long period. I'd say he gets at least 4 OR 5 years at the top before he slips.
I think Joe might have run into Shavers at some point in the early 80s and even then Earnie was extremely dangerous. I just can't see Joe taking that right hand (including that near-Foreman-level uppercut). It might have made Earnie a champ at the time.
Alot of guys took it. Who did Shavers ever beat that had a chin and toughness like Joe Frazier? On the flip side of that coin what makes you think Shavers can take much of anything from Joe? Between the two of them Shavers had the inferior chin.
Great points. It's just that Frazier's swarming style seems pretty perfect for Earnie. I could be wrong. FOTC Frazier would have mopped the floor with Shavers.
