Degale fights on Feb 13. Seeing Adamu's performance last Friday FW may see a commonwealth title as a quick way of picking up a belt for the first of his trio. I could not see Degale losing. FW would then have a Londoner to top his bills in the capital, and the likes of Smith & Quigley could follow after a couple of defences.
No Degale hasn't done the rounds would be a bit of a needless risk and I'm normally the one wanting to push them. I want to see George Groves-Adamu on the Haye undercard.
There is a big difference with a fan thinking he is ready and FW thinking he is ready.Clearly Warren will continue putting him in with bums
Hardly a risk looking at Adamu's performance...Dilks was a rank novice himself If you can't beat that guy you have no future in the game, certainly no future as a prospect.
Adamu should improve next year (I say that tentatively) and he's a messy fighter. He'd been out for about 15 months before the Dilks fight and you could see his timing was way off but he threw a lot of punches and showed a good engine and that will only improve next year. On the messy front, he boars in with the head and he will be awkward for anyone, particularly inexperienced fighters who aren't used to clinches and fighting up close. (Dilks got a bad cut under his right eye from a head clash) I'm not sure about DeGale, but I know Groves wants this title and I think he beats Adamu hands down. His jab is far far superior to Dilks and Dilks was landing his whenever he threw it. Groves hits harder than Dilks too and would have the power to discourage and dishearten Adamu where Dilks couldn't. It wouldn't be an easy ride though.
Good assesment. I think that Groves is more prepared for this then Degale sure I would expect both to win but it would be more of a risk with Degale considering he hasn't done 6 rounds yet or faced a pressure fighter whereseas Groves has done 8 rounds and has faced a teek tough pressure fighter in Makhankov, hopefully he gets a decent opponent and another 8 rounder for his next date which I believe is January and then can go after Adamu in his next fight (undercard of Haye-Ruiz please :happy)
Yep agree with all of that. He should be fighting Jan 22nd in Essex. Wouldn't mind seeing him have another fight after that one though, over 10, and then take on Adamu.
Any idea on the opponent? For me it would all depend on who they get in and how many rounds he does if he does another 6 or 8 against a fighter that keeps on coming at him then I would make the fight but if he has does 2 or 3 and blasts out a Georgian bum (now we aren't getting Latvians) then I wouldn't do it and would give him another step up before taking the Adamu fight.
I would get behind Degale and could maybe see him winning, but it is a risk. Degale was horrible in his last fight. I do hope Degale all the best, i have met him and think he is a top lad - but Groves is more ready for an Adamu match-up.
DeGale isn't ready yet for Adamu. Adamu was really poor and Dilks done a good job and got jobbed imo but Adamu is the type of guy that can drag you in the trenches and he's strong and crude and i think James needs a bit more time. It's a risk not worth taking because Adamu could actually turn up and look like the guy that fought Froch so i think give James 6 months then let him in with him. Say 3 fights time let him get a 6-8 then 10 rounder under belt then push him on. His skills will beat Adamu...just not sure if the slaps will.
