Would GGG's PPV numbers be bigger than Canelo's if he was Mexican?

Canelo of course is a very skilled fighter and has taken on some great fighters in Mayweather, Lara and Cotto all before the age of 27.

GGG is in his mid 30's and is only now taking on his first real A opponent, however he has destroyed all his b level opponents in empathetic fashion and his fan friendly style is now allowing him to become somewhat of a big draw in the US.

Do you think his numbers would be better than Canelos if he had such a boxing mad nation behind him?

GGG. He's Mexican Style and is virtually the bigger version of Julio Cesar Chavez.

Based on their resumes, still Canelo.

In a perfect world, GGG should be the face of boxing and the highest paid boxer based on his fighting style(my personal favorite) but we all know(or should know by now) that, that is not the way things work.

GGG-Lemieux pulled 4.5 mil viewers in Kazakhstan.

I still believe in the tried true method of marketing yourself by fighting names, so no I disagree. Style is but part of the equation. Even now this still rings true in today's hype machine driven social media era. Otherwise G would already be a huge star.

Would be massive. He'd be a superstar, raking in massive PPVs across the US with the entire latino fanbase behind him.

    GGG.

The thing is that GGG would've got a far better resume if he had a large Mexican fanbase. This would have allowed him to offer people like Sturm, BJS, etc. big money to get them into the ring.

So, if we count that, GGG would certainly be the bigger star.

If he didn't use his popularity to fight good fighters, I'd say he would be at least where Canelo is now, his unbeaten record, style and KOs making up for the lack of good names.

Canelo was clowned by Floyd & arguably lost to both Lara & Trout

Fighting the p4p no.1 at 24 weight drained is undoubtedly tough, I thought Lara beat him but has anyone ever really beat Lara cleanly? Trout one was a draw for me and definitely not great from Canelo but trout is no scrub, I think those 3 fights told Canelo to avoid slick black fighters and he hasn't fought one since.

With all that being said has GGG fought anyone on the level of those 3 when Canelo fought them?

Nobody is doing huge numbers, they need a dance partner.

Not Canelo apparently, if you can get 40,000 plus people to watch whilst fighting smith your doing pretty good I guess.

I like Canelo but Golovkin would be massive if he was Mexican or American

I think golovkin popularity in this forum has quite a big influence in most polls conducted here.
If we are to assume both are Mexican, we have to scrap aside all this GGG canelo shenanigans.
Both have equally excel in their respective weight class.
GGG popularity are based on the good boy image and knockout style.
Canelo popularity is based on a good looking fighter who can fight.
No bias aside, I still think that canelo will be more popular because he can transcend genders based on his look, to a certain degree similar to dela Hoya.

Of course he would. Imagine all the hype about "MUH MEXICO VS PUERTO RICO" if it was Gilberto Gabriel Gonzalez vs Rosado a few years ago lol
    They'll buy anything
