Boxing glove size evolved over time, from around 4 ounces in Sullivan’s time to 6 ounces in Louis’ time, to 8 ounces in Ali’s time and 10-16 ounces nowadays.

I’ve read somewhere that Marciano’s power was impacted in his fight with Cockell due to the choice of 8 ounce gloves instead of 6 ounces, is it possible that the power of Fitz, Langford, Gans, McGovern, Louis, Dempsey, Sullivan, etc would be impacted?

Likely, I always take the power of the older guys with a grain of salt. It's the same thing as how heavyweights have gotten bigger with time.

I think it could go both ways. Could Wilder load up with his sloppy power punches with the smaller gloves, without as good protection for his hands? He had to go through multiple surgeries as it was - and doubt that He'd get his hands and arms fixed as well in the old days.
He'd have to adjust his style or would likely retire early due to injuries.

Yes, but the power required for damage and the power they can generate is silly levels of upside-down.

I say it often when talking Rocky, no man simply eats 925. That's not a possibility and so it's silly to believe Marciano ever actually throws 925 at a living human.

My point here is I am pretty sure there is some play there. As in, yes, different gloves might give you a different result in a clean test but against a live opponent it's probably a minimal effect.
