No way to tell now... Froch put a hell of a lot of energy into the final rally against Groves and could of busted his load and had nothing left for the rest of the fight and George could of found his second wind and came on strong to earn a stoppage of his own... There is just no way to tell thanks to Howard the c unt Foster (aka Froch's Dad)
I think he would have survived. Didn't look like a finish to me, only Froch's body language swinging wildly convinced the ref. Bottom line, we will never know because of that god awful ref.
Prior to Groves being on the ropes, and for the first time looking vulnerable by taking a couple of hard shots, I saw nothing that led me to believe Froch was going to stop him, or gain a clear upper hand. Froch was coming on, but not enough to indicate a massive turn in the tide of the fight. GG was "buzzed" on the ropes but he wasn't about to be stopped/KO'd imo. What could Froch have done if he had started stalking a tired GG who was disorientated and in panic mode? But GG may of course have maintained his composure. Groves was tiring so he couldn't maintain the kind of tempo his game plan required. Groves could have connected with another incredible right hand 20 seconds after being "stopped" on the ropes. Froch is not immune to being stopped either infact he came the closest he has ever been. If I could have been more sure on GG's condition, and whether he was running out of steam then I would say yes, Froch may well of stopped him because he is an excellent finisher, especially late on. But Froch had taken massive shots, too many. He had taken a beating really, so was Carl really capable of turning it on? Another thing we dont know about GG, because he is relatively untested, is how he would have coped in the championship rounds under insane pressure. This could have been a classic, a real atg classic fight that was DESTROYED. So to answer the question. No George would not have been stopped. Based purely on the objective evidence.
I was thinking about the Taylor fight as well but it's hard to say Groves recovered well against Anderson as well though Taylor was knowing to gas late .I think he'd have recovered tbh .
I'm inclined to agree - those who have this steadfast surety that Groves was on his way out are falling for Hearn's / Froch's chicanery. I'm just not convinced the action leading up to the stoppage supports that conclusion - but of course now we'll never know.
This was my read on what was happening at the time of the fight. That was pretty much Froch's last throw. Had Groves recovered between 9 and 10 it would have been a different fight again. Foster robbed everyone of finding out though - Robbed both Froch and Groves of potentially magnificent victories and also robbed the fans.
Who knows you can never tell in boxing especially with big punchers. Eubank was out vs watson then that uppercut connected. Benn was hurt bas vs mclellan and logan and stopped them both. Never seen froch hurt so bad it was a huge right hand and i think any other smw would not have got up. I thought it was a great fight to watch a real classic except the ending and i think what a good tear up it was has been lost
Impossible to know, but Groves was hurt, the uppercut froch landed at the end was sickening. I not convinced Froch would of stopped him in that round, but I do think he would of stopped him. Carl took the best GG had to offer, especially in the 6th and kept coming.
