And he also would have been eligable for the draft in the 1950's.....so in the era of Marciano... the same stuff that happened to Ali starting in 1967 would have happened then too.....and then what???

Well, is it really crap? Let´s see, Ali himself became very respectful of Marciano after the computerfight thing. He wasn´t before. He even said something along the line of "Marciano may have been able to beat me". For Ali that´s a big thing. I´m more with Ali himself than you here.

The prime 1960's Ali easly defeats that whole group ... All this talk about Walcott is a reach ... Walcott fought on an even level with blown up 187 pound Charles ... Ali was bigger, stronger, faster and better conditined than Ez ...

Definitely. As has been said, his toughest opponent would have been Walcott. He could have had a 3 1/2 year lay off in 1957,come back and beat Patterson,Johansson and Liston. Then he meets a young buck named Cassius Clay, which would produce a great fight.

  7. i think that a prime patterson would beat walcott in a close fight, liston would demolish walcott, no contest.

Ali would have fought much more frequently than Marciano. I could see him fighting guys like Charles, Moore, and Waloctt three or even four times apiece and possibly getting upset at least once. Very dangerous fighters to engage multiple times and its doubtful he could discourage and ruin them in only a few meetings like Rocky did. His career would also likely stretch into the Patterson/Liston years and even further into the 60s where he would pick up some past prime loses as he did against Spinks/Holmes/Berbick. He may lose more than Marciano in such a long busy career but he would still shine as the Greatest in any decade.

The most that you can say about anybody, is that they would have a good shot at going undefeated vs the same opponents that Marciano fought in the same order. Marciano himself would not necisarily have done it without a couple of lucky aces. Ali would be one of the better prospects to do it.

Mongoose has made the most salient point in that Ali would probably have fought more often and for longer. He would simply have carried on untill sombody beat him.

If a prime Ali fought the same opponents that Rocky did in the same order he would be undefeated without question...The boxing world would be shocked at what it would be witnessing. Nothing quite like Ali would've been seen by that time and the fighters of the 50's wouldn't have been able to cope with the possible exception of Walcott and that's a stretch as well. Can we really envision any fighter of that time out boxing and outpointing Ali? I can't.

In fact, if there's one who could ruin fighters, it was Ali. He ruined Liston, Terrell and Foreman (to a point), and many believe he beat Frazier out of his prime even in a losing effort. If Charles meets prime Ali, I don't see a cause for a rematch. More or less the same with Walcott. Marciano is a different story, though. That could develop into a trilogy. Rocky would be a tough match-up even for prime Ali.
